இஸ்ரவேலர் ஏதோமின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: நாங்கள் உன் தேசத்துவழியாய்க் கடந்து போகட்டும் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார்கள்; அதற்கு ஏதோமின் ராஜா செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை; அப்படியே மோவாபின் ராஜாவிடத்திற்கும் அனுப்பினார்கள்; அவனும் சம்மதிக்கவில்லை. ஆதலால் இஸ்ரவேலர் காதேசிலே தரித்திருந்து,

இஸ்ரவேலர் ஏதோம் அரசனுக்கு தூதுவரை அனுப்பினார்கள். தூதுவர்கள் ஒரு தயவு கேட்டனர். அவர்கள், ‘இஸ்ரவேலர் உங்கள் தேசத்தினூடே கடந்து செல்லட்டும்’ என்று கேட்டனர். ஆனால் ஏதோமின் அரசன் தனது தேசத்தைக் கடந்து செல்ல அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. மோவாப் அரசனுக்கும் இதே செய்தியை அனுப்பினோம். மோவாம் எங்களைத் தனது தேசத்தின் வழியாக கடந்து செல்ல அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. இதனால் இஸ்ரவேலர் காதேசில் தங்கினார்கள்.

Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
