இந்த யோவான் ஒட்டகமயிர் உடையைத் தரித்து, தன் அரையில் வார்கச்சையைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்; வெட்டுக்கிளியும் காட்டுத் தேனும் அவனுக்கு ஆகாரமாயிருந்தது.

வெட்டுக்கிளி ஜாதியாயிருக்கிறதையும், சோலையாம் என்னும் கிளிஜாதியாயிருக்கிறதையும், அர்கொல் என்னும் கிளிஜாதியாயிருக்கிறதையும், ஆகாபு என்னும் கிளிஜாதியாயிருக்கிறதையும் நீங்கள் புசிக்கலாம்.

அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அவன் மயிர் உடையைத் தரித்து, வார்க்கச்சையைத் தன் அரையிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தான் என்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன்: திஸ்பியனாகிய எலியாதான் என்று சொல்லி;

அந்நாளிலே தரிசனம் சொல்லுகிற அவனவன் தான் சொன்ன தரிசனத்தினால் வெட்கப்பட்டு, பொய்சொல்லும்படிக்கு இனி மயிர்ப்போர்வையைப் போத்துக்கொள்ளாமல்,

அல்லவென்றால், எதைப் பார்க்கப்போனீர்கள்? மெல்லிய வஸ்திரந்தரித்த மனுஷனையோ? மெல்லிய வஸ்திரந்தரித்தவர்கள் அரசர் மாளிகைகளில் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

யோவான் ஒட்டகமயிர் உடையைத் தரித்து, தன் அரையில் வார்கச்சையைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டவனாயும், வெட்டுக்கிளியையும் காட்டுத்தேனையும் புசிக்கிறவனாயும் இருந்தான்.

பூமியிலுள்ள உயர்ந்த ஸ்தானங்களின்மேல் அவனை ஏறிவரப்பண்ணினார்; வயலில் விளையும் பலனை அவனுக்குப் புசிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்; கன்மலையிலுள்ள தேனையும், கற்பாறையிலிருந்து வடியும் எண்ணெயையும் அவன் உண்ணும்படி செய்தார்.

தேசத்து ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் ஒரு காட்டிலே வந்தார்கள்; அங்கே வெளியிலே தேன்கூடு கட்டியிருந்தது.

இதோ, கர்த்தருடைய பெரிதும் பயங்கரமுமான நாள் வருகிறதற்குமுன்னே நான் உங்களிடத்திற்கு எலியா தீர்க்கதரிசியை அனுப்புகிறேன்.

எப்படியெனில் யோவான் போஜனபானம்பண்ணாதவனாய் வந்தான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அவன் பிசாசு பிடித்திருக்கிறவன் என்றார்கள்.

பிதாக்களுடைய இருதயங்களைப் பிள்ளைகளிடத்திற்கும், கீழ்ப்படியாதவர்களை நீதிமான்களுடைய ஞானத்திற்கும் திருப்பி, உத்தமமான ஜனத்தைக் கர்த்தருக்கு ஆயத்தப்படுத்தும்படியாக, அவன் எலியாவின் ஆவியும் பலமும் உடையவனாய் அவருக்கு முன்னே நடப்பான் என்றான்.

என்னுடைய இரண்டு சாட்சிகளும் இரட்டு வஸ்திரமுடுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கிறவர்களாய், ஆயிரத்திருநூற்றறுபது நாளளவும் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லும்படி அவர்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் கொடுப்பேன்.
