எகிப்திலே எனக்கு உண்டாயிருக்கிற சகல மகிமையையும், நீங்கள் கண்ட யாவையும் என் தகப்பனுக்கு அறிவித்து, அவர் சீக்கிரமாய் இவ்விடத்துக்கு வரும்படி செய்யுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி;

இஸ்ரவேல் அந்தத் தேசத்தில் தங்கிக் குடியிருக்கும்போது, ரூபன் போய், தன் தகப்பனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியாகிய பில்காளோடு உறவுகொண்டான்; அதை இஸ்ரவேல் கேள்விப்பட்டான்.

இஸ்ரவேல் அங்கு கொஞ்சக்காலமே தங்கினான். அப்போது ரூபன், தன் தந்தையின் வேலைக் காரியான பில்காளோடு பாலின உறவு கொண்டதை அறிந்து இஸ்ரவேல் கடுங்கோபம் கொண்டான். யாக்கோபிற்கு (இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு) 12 மகன்கள் இருந்தார்கள்.
