ஆதியாகமம் 2:2
தேவன் தாம் செய்த தம்முடைய கிரியையை ஏழாம் நாளிலே நிறைவேற்றி, தாம் உண்டாக்கின தம்முடைய கிரியைகளை எல்லாம் முடித்தபின்பு, ஏழாம் நாளிலே ஓய்ந்திருந்தார்.

அது என்றைக்கும் எனக்கும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கும் அடையாளமாயிருக்கும்; ஆறுநாளைக்குள்ளே கர்த்தர் வானத்தையும் பூமியையும் உண்டாக்கி, ஏழாம் நாளிலே ஓய்ந்திருந்து பூரித்தார் என்றார்.

மேலும், தேவன் தம்முடைய கிரியைகளையெல்லாம் முடித்து ஏழாம் நாளிலே ஓய்ந்திருந்தார் என்று ஏழாம் நாளைக்குறித்து ஓரிடத்தில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.

ஏழாம் நாளோ உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய ஓய்வுநாள்; அதிலே நீயானாலும், உன் குமாரனானாலும், உன் குமாரத்தியானாலும், உன் வேலைக்காரனானாலும், உன் வேலைக்காரியானாலும், உன் எருதானாலும், உன் கழுதையானாலும், உனக்கு இருக்கிற மற்றெந்த மிருகஜீவனானாலும், உன் வாசல்களில் இருக்கிற அந்நியனானாலும் யாதொரு வேலையும் செய்யவேண்டாம்; நீ இளைப்பாறுவதுபோல உன் வேலைக்காரனும் உன் வேலைக்காரியும் இளைப்பாறவேண்டும்;

ஓய்வுநாளைப் பரிசுத்தமாய் ஆசரிக்க நினைப்பாயாக;

ஆறுநாள் உன் வேலையைச் செய்து, ஏழாம்நாளிலே உன் மாடும் உன் கழுதையும் இளைப்பாறவும், உன் அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் பிள்ளையும் அந்நியனும் இளைப்பாறவும் ஓய்ந்திருப்பாயாக.

அப்பொழுது தேவன் தாம் உண்டாக்கின எல்லாவற்றையும் பார்த்தார், அது மிகவும் நன்றாயிருந்தது; சாயங்காலமும் விடியற்காலமுமாகி ஆறாம் நாள் ஆயிற்று.

என் பரிசுத்தநாளாகிய ஓய்வுநாளிலே உனக்கு இஷ்டமானதைச் செய்யாதபடி, உன் காலை விலக்கி, உன்வழிகளின்படி, நடவாமலும், உனக்கு இஷ்டமானதைச் செய்யாமலும் உன் சொந்தப்பேச்சைப் பேசாமலிருந்து ஓய்வுநாளை மனமகிழ்ச்சியின் நாளென்றும், கர்த்தருடைய பரிசுத்த நாளை மகிமையுள்ள நாளென்றும் சொல்லி, அதை மகிமையாக எண்ணுவாயானால்,

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: என் பிதா இதுவரைக்கும் கிரியைசெய்துவருகிறார். நானும் கிரியைசெய்துவருகிறேன் என்றார்.
