அவன் இவனிடத்துக்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: யூதாவின் ராஜாவே, எனக்கும் உமக்கும் என்ன? நான் இப்போது உமக்கு விரோதமாய் அல்ல, என்னோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணுகிற ஒருவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போகிறேன்; நான் தீவிரிக்கவேண்டுமென்று தேவன் சொன்னார்; தேவன் என்னோடிருக்கிறார்; அவர் உம்மை அழிக்காதபடிக்கு அவருக்கு எதிரிடைசெய்வதை விட்டுவிடும் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

எசேக்கியா தனக்குச் செய்யப்பட்ட உதவிக்குத் தகுந்தவாறு நடக்காமல் மனமேட்டிமையானான்; ஆகையால் அவன்மேலும், யூதாவின்மேலும், எருசலேமின்மேலும் கடுங்கோபம் வந்தது.

ஆனால் எசேக்கியாவின் மனதில் கர்வ உணர்வு தோன்றியது. எனவே அவன் தேவனுடைய கருணைக்காக அவருக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தவில்லை. இதனால் தேவனுக்கு எசேக்கியாவின் மீது கோபம் ஏற்பட்டது. அதோடு யூதா மற்றும் எருசலேம் ஜனங்கள் மீதும் கோபம் ஏற்பட்டது.
