பின்பு சாமுவேல் சவுலை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலராகிய தம்முடைய ஜனங்கள் மேல் உம்மை ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம் பண்ணுகிறதற்குக் கர்த்தர் என்னை அனுப்பினாரே; இப்போதும் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளின் சத்தத்தைக்கேளும்:

நேபாத்தின் மகனாகிய யெரொபெயாமின் பாவங்களில் நடப்பது அவனுக்குக் கொஞ்சக்காரியமென்று நினைத்ததைப்போல அவன் சீதோனியர்களின் ராஜாவாகிய ஏத்பாகாலின் மகள் யேசபேலை திருமணம் செய்ததுமல்லாமல், அவன் போய் பாகாலையும் தொழுது அதைப் பணிந்துகொண்டு,

நேபாத்தின் மகனான யெரொபெயாம் செய்த அதே பாவங்களைச் செய்வது இவனுக்குப் போதுமானதாயிருக்கவில்லை. அவன் சீதோனியரின் அரசனான ஏத்பாகாலின் மகள் யேசபேலை மணந்து பாகாலையும் தொழுதுகொண்டான்.
