1 அகசியாவின் தாயாகிய அத்தாலியாள் தன் குமாரன் இறந்துபோனதைக் கண்டபோது, எழும்பி ராஜவம்சஸ்தர் யாவரையும் சங்காரம் பண்ணினாள்.
2 யோராம் என்னும் ராஜாவின் குமாரத்தியும் அகசியாவின் சகோதரியுமாகிய யோசேபாள், கொலையுண்ணப்படுகிற ராஜகுமாரரின் நடுவிலிருக்கிற அகசியாவின் மகனாகிய யோவாசைக் களவாய் எடுத்தாள்; அவன் கொல்லப்படாதபடி, அவனையும் அவன் தாதியையும் அத்தாலியாளுக்குத் தெரியாமல் பள்ளி அறையில் ஒளித்து வைத்தார்கள்.
3 இவளோடேகூட அவன் ஆறுவருஷம் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் ஒளித்துவைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தான்; அத்தாலியாள் தேசத்தின்மேல் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணினான்.
4 ஏழாம் வருஷத்திலே யோய்தா நூறு பேருக்கு அதிபதிகளையும் தலைவரையும் காவலாளரையும் அழைப்பித்து, அவர்களைத் தன்னிடத்தில் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலே வரச்சொல்லி, அவர்களோடு உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணி, அவர்களைக் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலே ஆணையிடுவித்துக் கொண்டு, அவர்களுக்கு ராஜாவின் குமாரனைக் காண்பித்து,
5 அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் செய்யவேண்டிய காரியம் என்னவென்றால், ஓய்வுநாளில் முறைப்படி இங்கே வருகிற உங்களில் மூன்றில் ஒருபங்கு ராஜாவின் அரமனைக் காவல் காக்கவேண்டும்.
6 மூன்றில் ஒருபங்கு சூர் என்னும் வாசலிலும், மூன்றில் ஒருபங்கு காவலாளரின் காவலின் பிறகே இருக்கிற வாசலிலுமிருந்து ஆலயக்காவலைப் பத்திரமாய்க் காக்கவேண்டும்.
7 இப்படியே ஓய்வுநாளில் முறைப்படியே உங்களில் இரண்டுபங்குபேர், ராஜாவினிடத்தில் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைக் காவல் காக்கவேண்டும்.
8 நீங்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள் ஆயுதங்களைக் கையிலே பிடித்தவர்களாய், ராஜாவைச் சுற்றிலும் வரிசையாய் நின்று கொண்டிருக்கவேண்டும்; வரிசைகளுக்குள் புகுந்துவருகிறவன்; கொலைசெய்யப்படக்கடவன்; ராஜா வெளியே போகும்போதும் உள்ளே வரும்போதும் நீங்கள் அவரோடே இருங்கள் என்றான்.
9 ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தா கட்டளையிட்டபடியெல்லாம் நூறுபேருக்கு அதிபதிகள் செய்து, அவரவர் ஓய்வுநாளில் முறைப்படி வருகிறவர்களும் முறைப்படி போகிறவர்களுமாகிய தங்கள் மனுஷரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தாவினிடத்தில் வந்தார்கள்.
10 ஆசாரியன் கர்த்தரின் ஆலயத்தில் தாவீதுராஜா வைத்திருந்த ஈட்டிகளையும் கேடகங்களையும் நூறுபேருக்கு அதிபதிகளிடத்தில் கொடுத்தான்.
11 காவலாளர் அவரவர் தங்கள் ஆயுதங்களைப் பிடித்தவர்களாய், ஆலயத்தின் வலதுபக்கம்தொடங்கி அதின் இடதுபக்கமட்டும், பலிபீடத்திற்கு எதிராகவும் ஆலயத்திற்கு எதிராகவும் ராஜாவைச் சுற்றிலும் நின்றார்கள்.
12 அப்பொழுது அவன்: ராஜகுமாரனை வெளியே கொண்டுவந்து, கிரீடத்தை அவன்மேல் வைத்து, சாட்சியின் ஆகமத்தை அவன் கையிலே கொடுத்தான்; இப்படி அவனை ராஜாவாக்கி அபிஷேகம்பண்ணி: ராஜா வாழ்க என்று சொல்லி கைகொட்டினார்கள்.
13 ஓடிவருகிற ஜனங்கள் செய்த ஆரவாரத்தை அத்தாலியாள் கேட்டபோது: அவள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்கு ஜனங்களிடத்தில் வந்து,
14 இதோ, ராஜா முறைமையின்படியே தூணண்டையிலே நிற்கிறதையும், ராஜாவண்டையில் நிற்கிற பிரபுக்களையும், எக்காளம் ஊதுகிறவர்களையும், தேசத்து ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் சந்தோஷப்பட்டு எக்காளம் ஊதுகிறதையும் கண்டவுடனே, அத்தாலியாள் தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு: துரோகம் துரோகம் என்று கூவினாள்.
15 ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தா ராணுவத்தலைவராகிய நூறுபேருக்கு அதிபதிகளானவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டு: இவளை வரிசைகளுக்குப் புறம்பே கொண்டுபோங்கள்; இவளைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவனைப் பட்டயத்தாலே வெட்டிப்போடுங்கள் என்றான். கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் அவளைக் கொல்லலாகாது என்று ஆசாரியன் சொல்லியிருந்தான்.
16 அவர்கள் அவளுக்கு இடம் உண்டாக்கினபோது, ராஜாவின் அரமனைக்குள் குதிரைகள் பிரவேசிக்கிற வழியிலே அவள் போகையில், அவளைக் கொன்று போட்டார்கள்.
17 அப்பொழுது யோய்தா, அவர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய ஜனமாயிருக்கும்படிக்கு, ராஜாவும் ஜனங்களும் கர்த்தரோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணவும், ராஜாவும் ஜனங்களும் ஒருவரோடொருவர் உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணவும் செய்து,
18 பின்பு தேசத்தின் ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் பாகாலின் கோவிலில் போய், அதை இடித்து, அதின் பலிபீடங்களையும் அதின் விக்கிரகங்களையும் முற்றிலும் உடைத்து, பாகாலின் பூஜாசாரியாகிய மாத்தானைப் பலிபீடங்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் கொன்று போட்டார்கள். ஆசாரியன் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தை விசாரிக்கும் உத்தியோகஸ்தரை ஏற்படுத்தினான்.
19 நூறுபேருக்கு அதிபதிகளையும் தலைவரையும் காவலாளரையும் தேசத்தின் ஜனங்களையும் கூட்டி, ராஜாவைக் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலிருந்து இறங்கப் பண்ணி, அவனைக் காவலாளரின் வாசல் வழியாய் ராஜ அரமனைக்கு அழைத்துக் கொண்டுபோனார்கள்; அங்கே அவன் ராஜாக்களுடைய சிங்காசனத்தின்மேல் உட்கார்ந்தான்.
20 தேசத்தின் ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் மகிழ்ந்து நகரம் அமைதலாயிற்று. அத்தாலியாளையோ ராஜாவின் அரமனையண்டையில் பட்டயத்தால் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.
1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
3 And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.
4 And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the king’s son.
5 And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;
6 And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
7 And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8 And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
9 And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10 And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the Lord.
11 And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
12 And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
13 And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the Lord.
14 And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.
15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.
16 And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.
18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.
19 And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.

1 தீருவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஈராம் தாவீதினிடத்தில் ஸ்தானாபதிகளையும், அவனுக்கு ஒரு வீட்டைக் கட்டுகிறதற்குக் கேதுருமரங்களையும், தச்சரையும், கல்தச்சரையும் அனுப்பினான்.
Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
2 கர்த்தர் தன்னை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாகத் திடப்படுத்தி, இஸ்ரவேலென்னும் தம்முடைய ஜனத்தினிமித்தம் தன்னுடைய ராஜ்யத்தை மிகவும் உயர்த்தினார் என்று தாவீது அறிந்துகொண்டான்.
And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
3 எருசலேமிலே தாவீது பின்னும் அநேக ஸ்திரீகளை விவாகம்பண்ணி, பின்னும் குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.
And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.
4 எருசலேமிலே அவனுக்குப் பிறந்த குமாரரின் நாமங்களாவன: சம்முவா, சோபாப், நாத்தான், சாலொமோன்,
Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5 இப்கார், எலிவா, எல்பெலேத்,
And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
6 நோகா, நெப்பேக், யப்பியா,
And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
7 எலிஷாமா, பெலியாதா, எலிப்பெலேத் என்பவைகள்.
And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
8 தாவீது சமஸ்த இஸ்ரவேலின்மேலும் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணப்பட்டதைப் பெலிஸ்தர் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, பெலிஸ்தர் எல்லாரும் தாவீதைத் தேடும்படி வந்தார்கள்; அதை தாவீது கேட்டபோது அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாகப் புறப்பட்டான்.
And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
9 பெலிஸ்தர் வந்து ரெப்பாயீம் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பரவியிருந்தார்கள்.
And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
10 பெலிஸ்தருக்கு விரோதமாகப் போகலாமா, அவர்களை என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பீரா என்று தாவீது தேவனைக் கேட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் போ, அவர்களை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்றார்.
And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11 அவர்கள் பாகால்பிராசீமுக்கு வந்தபோது, தாவீது அங்கே அவர்களை முறியடித்து தண்ணீர்கள் உடைந்தோடுகிறதுபோல, தேவன் என் கையினால் என் சத்துருக்களை உடைந்தோடப்பண்ணினாரென்றான்; அதினிமித்தம் அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்குப் பாகால்பிராசீம் என்னும் பேரிட்டார்கள்.
So they came up to Baal-perazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13 பெலிஸ்தர் மறுபடியும் வந்து அந்தப் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே இறங்கினார்கள்.
And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
14 அப்பொழுது தாவீது திரும்ப தேவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்ததற்கு, தேவன் நீ அவர்களுக்குப் பின்னாலே போகாமல், அவர்களுக்குப் பக்கமாய்ச் சுற்றி, முசுக்கட்டைச் செடிகளுக்கு எதிரேயிருந்து, அவர்கள்மேல் பாய்ந்து,
Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
15 முசுக்கட்டைச் செடிகளின் நுனிகளிலே செல்லுகிற இரைச்சலை நீ கேட்கும்போது, யுத்தத்திற்குப் புறப்படு; பெலிஸ்தரின் பாளயத்தை முறிய அடிக்க தேவன் உனக்கு முன்னே புறப்பட்டிருப்பார் என்றார்.
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
16 தேவன் தனக்குக் கற்பித்தபடியே தாவீது செய்தபோது, பெலிஸ்தரின் இராணுவத்தைக் கிபியோன் துவக்கிக் காசேர்மட்டும் முறிய அடித்தார்கள்.
David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
17 அப்படியே தாவீதின் கீர்த்தி சகல தேசங்களிலும் பிரசித்தமாகி, அவனுக்குப் பயப்படுகிற பயத்தைக் கர்த்தர் சகல ஜாதிகளின்மேலும் வரப்பண்ணினார்.
And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
