1 ହେ ଥିୟଫିଲ, ମୁଁ ମାରେ ପ୍ରଥମ ପୁସ୍ତକରେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ ଓ ଉପଦେଶଗୁଡ଼ିକ ବିଷୟ ରେ ଲେଖିଛି।

2 ମୁଁ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କର ସଂମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଜୀବନ ସମ୍ପର୍କ ରେ ଆରମ୍ଭରୁ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ସ୍ବର୍ଗକୁ ନିଆୟିବା ପର୍ୟ୍ଯନ୍ତ ସବୁକିଛି ଲେଖିଛି। ଏହା ଘଟିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଯୀଶୁ ନିଜେ ବାଛିଥିବା ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ କଥାବର୍ତ୍ତା ହାଇେଥିଲେ। ପବିତ୍ରଆତ୍ମାଙ୍କ ସାହାୟ୍ଯ ରେ ଯୀଶୁ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ କ'ଣ କରିବା ଉଚ଼ିତ, ସହେି କଥା କହିଲେ।

3 ଏହି ଘଟଣାଟି ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କର ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ପରେ ଘଟିଥିଲା। କିନ୍ତୁ ଅନକେ ଶକ୍ତିୟୁକ୍ତ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ ଦ୍ବାରା ସେ ପ୍ରମାଣିତ କରି ଦେଖଇେ ଦେଲେ ଯେ, ସେ ଜୀବିତ ଥିଲେ। ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ପରେ ପୁନର୍ଜୀବିତ ହାଇେ ଉଠିଥିବାର ଚାଳିଶ ଦିନ ପର୍ୟନ୍ତ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଅନକେ ଥର ଦେଖିଲେ। ଯୀଶୁ ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କର ରାଜ୍ଯ ବିଷୟ ରେ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ।

4 ଦିନେ ଯେତବେେଳେ ଯୀଶୁ ସମାନଙ୍କେ ସାଙ୍ଗ ରେ ଭୋଜନ କରୁଥିଲେ ସେତବେେଳେ ସେ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନଙ୍କୁ ୟିରୂଶାଲମ ନ ଛାଡ଼ିବାପାଇଁ କହିଲେ। ଯୀଶୁ କହିଲେ, ପରମେଶ୍ବର ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ କିଛି ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା ଦଇେଛନ୍ତି। ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏହି ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା ବିଷୟ ରେ ଆଗରୁ କହି ସାରିଛି। ତେଣୁ ସହେି ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା ନ ପାଇବା ପର୍ୟ୍ଯନ୍ତ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ୟିରୂଶାଲମ ରେ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ରେ ରୁହ।

5 ଯୋହନ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଜଳ ରେ ବାପ୍ତିସ୍ମ ଦଇେଥିଲେ, କିନ୍ତୁ ଅଳ୍ପ ଦିନ ଭିତ ରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ପବିତ୍ରଆତ୍ମାଙ୍କ ଦ୍ବାରା ବାପ୍ତିଜିତ ହବେ।

6 ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଏକାଠି ହାଇେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ପଚ଼ାରିଲେ, ପ୍ରଭୁ, ଆପଣ ଇଶ୍ରାୟେଲମାନଙ୍କୁ ସମାନଙ୍କେର ରାଜ୍ଯ ଏହି ସମୟରେ ପୁନର୍ବାର ଦେଉଅଛନ୍ତି କି?

7 ଯୀଶୁ ସମାନଙ୍କେୁ କହିଲେ, କବଳେ ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କର ଅଧିକାର ଅଛି ଯେ, ସେ ତାରିଖ ଓ ସମୟ ଗୁଡ଼ିକ ବିଷୟ ରେ ନିଷ୍ପତ୍ତି ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିପାରିବେ। ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ସେ ବିଷୟ ରେ ଜାଣି ପାରିବ ନାହିଁ।

8 କିନ୍ତୁ ପବିତ୍ରଆତ୍ମା ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଅବତୀର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହେଲେ। ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଶକ୍ତି ପାଇ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ମାରେ ସାକ୍ଷୀ ହବେ। ପ୍ରଥମେ ୟିରୂଶାଲମର ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ, ତା'ପରେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ସମଗ୍ର ୟିହୂଦା ପ୍ରଦେଶ, ଶମିରୋଣ ଓ ପୃଥିବୀର ସମସ୍ତ ଅଞ୍ଚଳ ରେ।

9 ଯୀଶୁ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏତିକି କହିବା ପରେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ଆକାଶକୁ ଉେଠଇ ନିଆଗଲା। ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଦେଖୁଥିବା ସମୟରେ ଯୀଶୁ ଖଣ୍ଡେ ମେଘ ଭିତରକୁ ଚାଲିଗଲେ, ଓ ସମାନେେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ଆଉ ଦେଖିପାରିଲେ ନାହିଁ।

10 ଯୀଶୁ ଚାଲି ଯାଉଥିଲେ ଓ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଆକାଶକୁ ଚାହିଁ ରହିଥିଲେ। ହଠାତ୍ ଦୁଇଜଣ ଧଳା ବସ୍ତ୍ର ପିନ୍ଧିଥିବା ପୁରୁଷ ସମାନଙ୍କେ ପାଖ ରେ ଆସି ଠିଆ ହେଲେ।

11 ସହେି ଦୁଇଜଣ ପୁରୁଷ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ହେ ଗାଲିଲୀର ଲୋକେ, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ଏଠା ରେ ଠିଆ ହାଇେ ଆକାଶ ଆଡ଼େ କାହିଁକି ଚାହିଁଛ? ଏହି ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଯେପରି ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ ଉଠାଇ ନିଆଗଲା, ସେ ସ୍ବର୍ଗକୁ ଗଲେ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ଉପରକୁ ୟିବାର ଯେପରି ଦେଖିଲ, ସହେିପରି ସେ ପୁଣି ଫରେିଆସିବେ।

12 ତା'ପରେ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଜୀତ ନାମକ ପର୍ବତରୁ ୟିରୂଶାଲମ ଫରେି ଆସିଲେ। ଏହି ପର୍ବତ ୟିରୂଶାଲମଠାରୁ ପ୍ରାୟ ଦୁଇ କି ଲୋମିଟର ଦୂର।

13 ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ସଠାେରେ ପହଞ୍ଚି ଉପରମହଲାର ଏକ କଠାେରୀ ଭିତରକୁ ଗଲେ, ସଠାେରେ ସମାନେେ ରହିଲେ। ଏ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ପିତର, ଯୋହନ ଯାକୁବ, ଆନ୍ଦ୍ରିୟ, ଫିଲିପ୍ପ, ଥୋମା, ବର୍ଥଲମା, ମାଥିଉ, ଆଲଫିର ପୁତ୍ର ଯାକୁବ, ସାହସୀ ଶିମାନେ ଓ ଯାକୁବର ପୁତ୍ର ୟିହୂଦା ଥିଲେ।

14 ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ସମସ୍ତେ ଏକାଠି ଥିଲେ ଓ ଗୋଟିଏ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ ଏକମନ ହାଇେ ନିରନ୍ତର ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରୁଥିଲେ। ସମାନଙ୍କେ ସହିତ କେତେ ଜଣ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଲୋକ, ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ମାତା ମରିୟମ ଓ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କର ଭାଇମାନେ ମଧ୍ଯ ଥିଲେ।

15 ସହେି ସମୟରେ ସଠାେରେ ପ୍ରାୟ ଶ ହକେୋଡ଼ିଏ ଜଣ ବିଶ୍ବାସୀ ଏକତ୍ର ହାଇେଥିଲେ। ପିତର ସମାନଙ୍କେ ମଧିଅରେ ଠିଆ ହାଇେ କହିଲେ,

16 ଭାଇମାନେ ଧର୍ମଶାସ୍ତ୍ର ରେ ପବିତ୍ରଆତ୍ମା ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ମୁଖ ଦ୍ବାରା କହିଛନ୍ତି ଯେ, କିଛି ଗୋଟିଏ ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଘଟିବ। ସେ ଏହା ୟିହୂଦାଙ୍କ ବିଷୟ ରେ କହିଥିଲେ।

17 ୟିହୂଦା ଆମ୍ଭ ଦଳ ରେ ଥିଲା ଓ ଆମ୍ଭ ସହିତ ଏକତ୍ର ସବୋ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ କରିଥିଲା, ପବିତ୍ରଆତ୍ମା କହିଥିଲେ ଯେ ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ବନ୍ଦୀ କରିବାକୁ ଯିବେ ୟିହୂଦା ସମାନଙ୍କେର ନେତା ହବେ।

18 ୟିହୂଦାକୁ ଏହି ଘୃଣ୍ଯ କାମ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଟଙ୍କା ଦିଆଯାଇଥିଲା। ସେଥି ରେ ସେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଜମି କିମି ଦଲୋ। କିନ୍ତୁ ସେ ନିଜେ ମୁଣ୍ଡ ମାଡ଼ି ହାଇେ ପଡ଼ିଲା। ପରେ ତା'ର ପଟେ ଫାଟିଗଲା ଓ ଅନ୍ତବୁଜୁଳା ବାହାରି ପଡ଼ିଲା।

19 ଏହି କଥା ୟିରୂଶାଲମ ବାସିନ୍ଦାମାନେ ସମସ୍ତେ ଜାଣିଲେ। ଏଣୁ ସମାନେେ ତାହାଙ୍କ ନିଜ ଭାଷା ରେ ଏହି ଜମିକୁ ହକଲ୍ଦମା ଅର୍ଥାତ୍ ରକ୍ତ କ୍ଷେତ୍ର ବୋଲି କହିଲେ।

20 ପିତର ପୁଣି କହିଲେ, ଗୀତସଂହିତା ରେ ୟିହୂଦା ସଂପର୍କ ରେ ଲଖାେ ଯାଇଅଛି:

21 ତେଣୁ ମୃତମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କର ପୁନରୁତ୍ଥାନର ସାକ୍ଷୀ ହବୋ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଆଉ ଜଣେ ଆମ୍ଭ ସହିତ ଯୋଗ ଦବୋ ନିତାନ୍ତ ଜରୁରୀ ଅଟେ। ତେଣୁ ପ୍ରଭୁ ଯୀଶୁ ଆମ୍ଭ ସହିତ ଥିବା ସମୟରେ ସେତବେେଳେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତ ରେ ଯେତେ ଜଣ ଥିଲେ ସମାନଙ୍କେ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ ଆଉ ଜଣକୁ ହିଁ ବଛାୟିବ।

22 ଅନ୍ୟଭାଷା ରେ କହିବାକୁ ଗଲେ, ଯୋହନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ବାରା ବାପ୍ତିଜିତ ହବୋ ଦିନଠାରୁ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ ଉର୍ଦ୍ଧ୍ବକୁ ନିଆ ହାଇଯେିବା ପର୍ୟ୍ଯନ୍ତ ଏହି ଲୋକ ଜଣଙ୍କ ଆମ୍ଭ ସଙ୍ଗ ରେ ରହିଥିବା ଉଚ଼ିତ।

23 ଏଥିପାଇଁ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଦୁଇଜଣ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ନାମ ପ୍ରସ୍ତାବ କଲେ। ସମାନଙ୍କେ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ ଜଣେ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ଯୋଷଫେ, ଯାହାଙ୍କୁ ବର୍ଶବ୍ବା ବୋଲି କୁହାଯାଉଥିଲା, ଏହାଙ୍କୁ ୟୁସ୍ତ ମଧ୍ଯ କୁହାଯାଉଥିଲାଏବଂ ଅନ୍ୟ ଜଣେ ମଥିୟ।

24 ପୁଣି ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କଲେ, ପ୍ରଭୁ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସମସ୍ତଙ୍କ ମନକଥା ଜାଣିଛ। ଏହି ସବୋ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ ଓ ପ୍ ରରେିତ ପଦ ଛାଡ଼ିଦଇେ ୟିହୂଦା ନିଜ ସ୍ଥାନକୁ ଗ୍ଭଲିଯାଇଛି।

25 ସହେି ପଦ ରେ ପ୍ ରରେିତ ହବୋ ନିମନ୍ତେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଏହି ଦୁଇ ଜଣଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ଯରୁ କାହାକୁ ପସନ୍ଦ କରିଛ, ତାହା ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦଖାଇଦେିଅ।

26 ତା'ପରେ ପ୍ ରରେିତମାନେ ଏହି ଦୁହିଁଙ୍କ ନାମ ରେ ଗୁଳା ପକାଇଲେ। କାଗଜ ରେ ଲଖାେଥିବା ଗୁଳା ମଥିୟଙ୍କ ନାମ ରେ ଉଠିଲା। ଏହିପରି ସେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଏଗାର ଜଣ ପ୍ ରରେିତଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଜଣେ ପ୍ ରରେିତ ହିସାବ ରେ ଗଣିତ ହେଲେ।

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
