நிலத்தினுடைய சகலவிதச் செடிகளும் பூமியின்மேல் இன்னும் உண்டாகவில்லை, நிலத்தினுடைய சகலவிதப் பூண்டுகளும் இன்னும் முளைக்கவில்லை; ஏனெனில் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் பூமியின்மேல் இன்னும் மழையைப் பெய்யப்பண்ணவில்லை; நிலத்தைப் பண்படுத்த மனுஷனும் இருந்ததில்லை.

ஆறாம் வருடத்தின் ஆறாம் மாதம் ஐந்தாம்தேதியிலே, நான் என்னுடைய வீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிறபோதும், யூதாவின் மூப்பர்கள் எனக்கு முன்பாக உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிறபோதும், கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவருடைய கரம் அங்கே என்மேல் அமர்ந்தது.

ஒரு நாள் நான் (எசேக்கியேல்) என் வீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்துக்கொண்டிருந்தேன். யூதாவின் மூப்பர்கள் (தலைவர்கள்) எனக்கு முன்னால் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள். இது நாடுகடத்தப்பட்ட ஆறாம் ஆண்டின் ஆறாம் மாதத்தின் ஐந்தாம் நாளாக இருந்தது. திடீரென்று எனது கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவருடைய வல்லமை என்மேல் வந்தது.
