And unto Adam he said, Because you have hearkened unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;

பின்பு தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் ஆணிடம்: “அந்த மரத்தின் கனியை உண்ணக் கூடாது என்று உனக்கு ஆணையிட்டிருந்தேன். ஆனால் நீ உன் மனைவியின் பேச்சைக் கேட்டு அந்த கனியை உண்டுவிட்டாய். ஆகையால் உன்னிமித்தம் இந்தப் பூமி சபிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும். எனவே நீ உயிரோடு இருக்கும் நாளெல்லாம் மிகுந்த கஷ்டத்துடன் பூமியின் பலனைப் பெறுவாய்.
