Genesis 16:2
And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing: I pray you, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

சாராய் ஆபிராமை நோக்கி: நான் குழந்தைபெறாமலிருக்கக் கர்த்தர் என் கர்ப்பத்தை அடைத்திருக்கிறார்; என் அடிமைப்பெண்ணோடு சேரும், ஒருவேளை அவளால் என்னுடைய குடும்பம் கட்டப்படும் என்றாள். சாராயின் வார்த்தையின்படி ஆபிராம் செய்தான்.

சாராய் ஆபிராமிடம், “கர்த்தர் நான் குழந்தை பெற்றுக்கொள்ள அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. எனவே எனது வேலைக்காரப் பெண்ணோடு செல்லுங்கள். அவளுக்குப் பிறக்கும் குழந்தையை என் குழந்தை போல் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வேன்” என்றாள். ஆபிராமும் தன் மனைவி சாராய் சொன்னபடி கேட்டான்.
