And when all the people came to cause David to eat food while it was yet day, David swore, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.

பகலாக இருக்கும்போது, மக்கள் எல்லோரும் வந்து: அப்பம் சாப்பிடும் என்று தாவீதுக்குச் சொன்னபோது, தாவீது: சூரியன் மறைவதற்கு முன்பு நான் அப்பமாவது வேறு எதையாவது ருசி பார்த்தால், தேவன் எனக்கு அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று ஆணையிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

அந்த நாள் முழுவதும் ஜனங்கள் தாவீதிடம் வந்து அப்பம் உண்ணுமாறு வற்புறுத்தினார்கள். ஆனால் தாவீது விசேஷ வாக்குறுதி செய்திருந்தான். அவன், “சூரியன் மறையும் முன்னர் நான் ரொட்டியையோ, வேறு உணவையோ உட்கொண்டால் தேவன் என்னைத் தண்டிப்பாராக” என்றான்.
