இவ்விதமாக மக்களை எண்ணிப்பார்த்த பின்பு, ராஜாவின் இருதயம் அவனை நோகடித்தது; அப்பொழுது தாவீது கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: நான் இப்படிச் செய்ததால் பெரிய பாவம் செய்தேன்; இப்போதும் ஆண்டவரே, உமது அடியானின் அக்கிரமத்தை நீக்கிவிடும்; நான் பெரிய முட்டாள்தனமான காரியம் செய்தேன் என்றான்.

ஜனங்கள் தொகையைக் கணக்கெடுத்த பிறகு தாவீது வெட்கமடைந்தான். தாவீது கர்த்தரை நோக்கி, “நான் செய்த இக்காரியத்தில் பெரும் பாவம் செய்தேன்! கர்த்தாவே! என் பாவத்தை மன்னிக்கும்படி நான் கெஞ்சுகிறேன். நான் மிகவும் மூடனாகிவிட்டேன்” என்றான்.
