1 అహాబు మరణమైన తరువాత మోయాబీయులు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిమీద తిరుగబడిరి.

2 అహజ్యా షోమ్రో నులోనున్న తన మేడగది కిటికీలోనుండి క్రిందపడి రోగియైమీరు ఎక్రోను దేవతయగు బయల్జెబూబు నొద్దకు పోయిఈ వ్యాధి పోగొట్టుకొని నేను స్వస్థ పడుదునో లేదో విచారించుడని దూతలను పంపగా

3 యెహోవా దూత తిష్బీయుడైన ఏలీయాతో ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెనునీవులేచి షోమ్రోనురాజు పంపిన దూతలను ఎదుర్కొనబోయి యిట్లనుముఇశ్రాయేలువారిలో దేవు డన్నవాడు లేడనుకొని ఎక్రోను దేవతయైన బయల్జె బూబునొద్ద మీరు విచారించబోవుచున్నారా?

4 కాగా యెహోవా సెలవిచ్చునదేమనగానీవెక్కిన మంచము మీదనుండి దిగిరాకుండ నీవు నిశ్చయముగా మరణమవు దువు అని ఏలీయా వారితో చెప్పి వెళ్లిపోయెను.

5 తరు వాత ఆ దూతలు రాజునొద్దకు వచ్చిరి.మీరెందుకు తిరిగి వచ్చితిరని అతడు వారి నడుగగా

6 వారుఒక మనుష్యుడు మాకు ఎదురుపడిమిమ్మును పంపిన రాజునొద్దకు తిరిగిపోయి అతనికి ఈ సంగతి తెలియ జేయుడియెహోవా సెలవిచ్చునదేమనగాఇశ్రాయేలులో దేవు డన్నవాడు లేడనుకొని ఎక్రోను దేవతయగు బయల్జె బూబునొద్ద విచారణచేయుటకు నీవు దూతలను పంపు చున్నావే; నీవెక్కిన మంచముమీద నుండి దిగి రాకుండ నిశ్చయముగా నీవు మరణమవుదువు అని అతడు పలికెనని వారు చెప్పగా

7 మిమ్మును ఎదుర్కొనవచ్చి యీ మాట చెప్పినవాడు ఏలాటివాడని రాజు అడిగెను.

8 అందుకు వారు అతడు గొంగళి ధరించుకొని నడుమునకు తోలుదట్టి కట్టుకొనినవాడని ప్రత్యుత్తరమియ్యగాఆ మనుష్యుడు తిష్బీయుడైన ఏలీయా అని అతడు చెప్పెను.

9 వెంటనే రాజు ఏబదిమందికి అధిపతియైన యొకనిని వాని యేబదిమందితో కూడ ఏలీయా యొద్దకు పంపెను. అతడు కొండమీద కూర్బుని యుండగా అధిపతి యెక్కి అతని సమీపమునకు పోయిదైవజనుడా, నీవు దిగిరావలెనని రాజు ఆజ్ఞాపించుచున్నాడనెను.

10 అందుకు ఏలీయానేను దైవజనుడనైతే అగ్ని ఆకాశమునుండి దిగివచ్చి నిన్ను నీ యేబదిమందిని దహించునుగాక అని యేబదిమందికి అధిపతియైన వానితో చెప్పగా, అగ్ని ఆకాశమునుండి దిగి వానిని వాని యేబదిమందిని దహించెను.

11 మరల రాజు ఏబది మందిమీద అధిపతియైన మరియొకనిని వాని యేబదిమందితోకూడ పంపగా వీడువచ్చిదైవజనుడా,త్వరగా దిగి రమ్మని రాజు ఆజ్ఞాపించుచున్నాడనెను.

12 అందుకు ఏలీయానేను దైవజనుడనైతే అగ్ని ఆకాశము నుండి దిగివచ్చి నిన్ను నీ యేబదిమందిని దహించునుగాక అని చెప్పగా, ఆకాశమునుండి దేవుని అగ్ని దిగి వానిని వాని యేబదిమందిని దహించెను.

13 ఇంకను రాజు ఏబది మందికి అధిపతియైన యొకనిని వాని ఏబదిమందితో కూడ పంపగా ఏబదిమంది మీద అధిపతియైన ఆ మూడవవాడు వచ్చి ఏలీయా యెదుట మోకాళ్లూనిదైవజనుడా, దయ చేసి నా ప్రాణమును నీదాసులైన యీ యేబదిమంది ప్రాణములను నీ దృష్టికి ప్రియమైనవిగా ఉండనిమ్ము.

14 చిత్తగించుము; ఆకాశమునుండి అగ్ని దిగి వెనుకటి పంచ దశాధిపతులను ఇద్దరిని వానివాని యేబది మందితో కూడ దహించెను; అయితే నా ప్రాణము నీ దృష్టికి ప్రియ మైనదిగా ఉండనిమ్మని మనవి చేయగా

15 యెహోవా దూతవానికి భయపడక వానితోకూడ దిగిపొమ్మని ఏలీ యాకు సెలవిచ్చెను గనుక అతడు లేచి వానితోకూడ రాజునొద్దకు వచ్చెను.

16 అతడు వచ్చి రాజును చూచివిచారణచేయుటకు ఇశ్రాయేలు వారిమధ్య దేవుడన్న వాడు లేడనుకొని నీవు ఎక్రోను దేవతయగు బయల్జెబూబునొద్ద విచారణచేయుటకై దూతలను పంపితివే; నీవెక్కిన మంచముమీదనుండి దిగి రాకుండ నిశ్చయముగా నీవు మరణమవుదువు అని చెప్పెను.

17 ఏలీయా ద్వారా యెహోవా సెలవిచ్చిన మాటప్రకారము అతడు చనిపోయెను. అతనికి కుమారుడు లేనందున యూదా రాజైన యెహోషాపాతు కుమారుడైన యెహోరాము ఏలుబడిలో రెండవ సంవత్సరమందు యెహోరాము అతనికి మారుగా రాజాయెను.

18 అహజ్యా చేసిన యితర కార్యములనుగూర్చి ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజుల వృత్తాంతముల గ్రంథమందు వ్రాయబడియున్నది.

1 Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.

2 And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?

4 Now therefore thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

5 And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?

6 And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

7 And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?

8 And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

11 Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.

14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.

15 And the angel of the Lord said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.

16 And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

17 So he died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

விசுவாசிகளான யூதரல்லாதவர்கள் இப்படிப்பட்டவைகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமல், விக்கிரகங்களுக்குப் படைத்த அசுத்தமானவைகளை சாப்பிடாமலும், கழுத்தை நசுக்கி கொல்லப்பட்ட மிருகம் மற்றும் இரத்தம் ஆகியவற்றை சாப்பிடாமலும், தகாத உறவு கொள்ளாமலும் இருக்கவேண்டும் என்று நாங்கள் தீர்மானம்பண்ணி, அவர்களுக்குக் கடிதம் எழுதி அனுப்பினோம் என்றார்கள்.

“யூதரல்லாத விசுவாசிகளுக்கு நாங்கள் ஏற்கெனவே ஒரு கடிதம் அனுப்பியுள்ளோம். அக்கடிதம், ‘விக்கிரகங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட உணவை உண்ணாதீர்கள். இரத்தத்தை ருசிக்காதீர்கள், நெரித்துக்கொல்லப்பட்ட மிருகங்களை உண்ணாதீர்கள், பாலியல் தொடர்பான பாவங்களைச் செய்யாதீர்கள்’ என்று கூறிற்று” என்றார்கள்.
