1 ఏలీయా చేసినదంతయును అతడు ఖడ్గముచేత ప్రవక్తల... నందరిని చంపించిన సంగతియును అహాబు యెజెబెలునకు తెలియజెప్పగా

2 యెజెబెలు ఒక దూతచేత ఏలీయాకు ఈ వర్తమానము పంపించెనురేపు ఈ వేళకు నేను నీ ప్రాణ మును వారిలో ఒకని ప్రాణమువలె చేయనియెడల దేవుడు నాకు గొప్ప అపాయము కలుగజేయునుగాక.

3 కాబట్టి అతడు ఈ సమాచారము తెలిసికొని, లేచి తన ప్రాణము కాపాడు కొనుటకై పోయి, యూదా సంబంధమైన బెయేర్షెబాకు చేరి, అచ్చట ఉండుమని తన దాసునితో చెప్పి

4 తాను ఒక దినప్రయాణము అరణ్యములోనికి పోయి యొక బదరీవృక్షముక్రింద కూర్చుండి, మరణా పేక్షగలవాడైయెహోవా, నా పితరులకంటె నేను ఎక్కువవాడను కాను, ఇంతమట్టుకు చాలును, నా ప్రాణము తీసికొనుము అని ప్రార్థనచేసెను.

5 అతడు బదరీవృక్షము క్రింద పరుండి నిద్రించుచుండగా ఒక దేవదూత వచ్చి అతని ముట్టినీవు లేచి భోజనము చేయుమని చెప్పెను.

6 అతడు చూచినంతలో అతని తలదగ్గర నిప్పుల మీద కాల్చబడిన అప్పమును నీళ్ల బుడ్డియు కనబడెను గనుక అతడు భోజనముచేసి తిరిగి పరుండెను.

7 ​అయితే యెహోవా దూత రెండవమారు వచ్చి అతని ముట్టినీ శక్తికి మించిన ప్రయాణము నీకు సిద్ధమై యున్నది, నీవు లేచి భోజనము చేయుమని చెప్పినప్పుడు

8 ​అతడు లేచి భోజనముచేసి, ఆ భోజనపు బలముచేత నలువది రాత్రింబగళ్లు ప్రయాణముచేసి, దేవుని పర్వతమని పేరుపెట్టబడిన హోరేబునకు వచ్చి

9 అచ్చట ఉన్న యొక గుహలోచేరి బసచేసెను. యెహోవావాక్కు అతనికి ప్రత్యక్షమైఏలీయా, యిచ్చట నీవేమి చేయుచున్నావని అతని నడుగగా

10 అతడుఇశ్రాయేలు వారు నీ నిబంధనను త్రోసి వేసి నీ బలిపీఠములను పడగొట్టి నీ ప్రవక్తలను ఖడ్గముచేత హతము చేసిరి. సైన్యముల కధిపతియు దేవుడునగు యెహోవా కొరకు మహా రోషముగలవాడనై నేను ఒక డనుమాత్రమే మిగిలియుండగా వారు నా ప్రాణమును కూడ తీసివేయుటకై చూచుచున్నారని మనవిచేసెను.

11 అందుకాయననీవు పోయి పర్వతముమీద యెహోవా సముఖమందు నిలిచి యుండుమని సెలవిచ్చెను. అంతట యెహోవా ఆ వైపున సంచరింపగా బలమైన పెనుగాలి లేచెను, యెహోవా భయమునకు పర్వతములు బద్దలాయెను; శిలలు ఛిన్నా భిన్నములాయెను గాని యెహోవా ఆ గాలి దెబ్బయందు ప్రత్యక్షము కాలేదు. గాలి పోయిన తరువాత భూకంపము కలిగెను గాని ఆ భూకంపమునందు యెహోవా ప్రత్యక్షము కాలేదు.

12 ఆ భూకంపమైన తరువాత మెరుపు పుట్టెను గాని ఆ మెరుపునందు యెహోవా ప్రత్యక్షము కాలేదు, మెరుపు ఆగిపోగా మిక్కిలి నిమ్మళముగా మాటలాడు ఒక స్వరము వినబడెను.

13 ఏలీయా దాని విని తన దుప్పటితో ముఖము కప్పుకొని బయలుదేరి గుహవాకిట నిలిచెను. అంతలో ఏలీయా, ఇచ్చట నీవేమి చేయుచున్నావని యొకడు పలికిన మాట అతనికి వినబడెను.

14 అందుకతడుఇశ్రా యేలువారు నీ నిబంధనను త్రోసివేసి నీ బలిపీఠములను పడగొట్టి నీ ప్రవక్తలను ఖడ్గముచేత హతము చేసిరి. సైన్య ములకధిపతియు దేవుడునగు యెహోవా కొరకు మహా రోషముగలవాడనై నేను ఒకడను మాత్రమే మిగిలియుండగా వారు నా ప్రాణము తీసివేయుటకై చూచు చున్నారని చెప్పెను.

15 అప్పుడు యెహోవా అతనికి సెల విచ్చిన దేమనగానీవు మరలి అరణ్యమార్గమున దమస్కు నకు పోయి దానిలో ప్రవేశించి సిరియ దేశముమీద హజాయేలునకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేయుము;

16 ​ఇశ్రాయేలు వారిమీద నింషీకుమారుడైన యెహూకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేయుము; నీకు మారుగా ప్రవక్తయైయుండుటకు ఆబేల్మె హోలావాడైన షాపాతు కుమారుడైన ఎలీషాకు అభిషేకము చేయుము.

17 ​హజాయేలుయొక్క ఖడ్గమును తప్పించుకొనువారిని యెహూ హతముచేయును; యెహూ యొక్క ఖడ్గమును తప్పించుకొనువారిని ఎలీషా హతము చేయును.

18 అయినను ఇశ్రాయేలు వారిలో బయలునకు మోకాళ్లూనకయు, నోటితో వాని ముద్దు పెట్టుకొనకయునుండు ఏడు వేలమంది నాకు ఇంకను మిగిలియుందురు.

19 ఏలీయా అచ్చటనుండి పోయిన తరువాత అతనికి షాపాతు కుమారుడైన ఎలీషా కనబడెను. అతడు తన ముందరనున్న పండ్రెండు అరకల యెడ్లచేత దుక్కి దున్నించుచు పండ్రెండవ అరక తాను తోలుచుండెను. ఏలీయా అతని చేర బోయి తన దుప్పటి అతనిమీద వేయగా

20 అతడు ఎడ్లను విడిచి ఏలీయావెంట పరుగెత్తినేను పోయి నా తలిదండ్రులను ముద్దుపెట్టుకొని తిరిగి వచ్చి నిన్ను వెంబ డించెదనని చెప్పి అతనిని సెలవడుగగా అతడుపోయి రమ్ము, నావలన నీకు నిర్బంధము లేదని చెప్పెను.

21 అందు కతడు అతనిని విడిచి వెళ్లి కాడి యెడ్లను తీసి, వధించి వాటిమాంసమును గొర్తినొగల చేత వంటచేసి జనులకు వడ్డిం చెను. వారు భోజనము చేసిన తరువాత అతడు లేచి ఏలీయా వెంబడి వెళ్లి అతనికి ఉపచారము చేయుచుండెను.

1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

15 And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
