ਇਹ ਦਿਨ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਲਾ ਦਿਨ ਸਬਤ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ। ਯਹੂਦੀ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਲੋਥਾਂ ਸਲੀਬ ਤੇ ਟੰਗੀਆਂ ਰਹਿਣ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਬਤ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਖਾਸ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿਲਾਤੁਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੱਤਾਂ ਤੋੜਨ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਜਲਦੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਲੀਬਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਲੋਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਾਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸੱਕੇ।
