1 ਰੂਥ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਮੀਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਸੀ। ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਅਲੀਮਲਕ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ।

2 ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ (ਮੋਆਬ ਦੀ ਔਰਤ) ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖੇਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਨਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇਵੇ।” ਨਾਓਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਚੰਗੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਧੀਏ ਜਾ।”

3 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਰੂਥ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਗਈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅਨਾਜ ਕੱਟ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਨਾਜ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। ਗੱਲ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਖੇਤ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਅਲੀਮਲਕ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਬੰਦੇ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਦਾ ਸੀ।

4 ਬਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਖੇਤ ਵੱਲ ਆਇਆ। ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਆ ਸਲਾਮ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਹੇ!” ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੇਵੇ।”

5 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਗਰਾਨ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਕਿਸਦੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਹੈ?”

6 ਨੌਕਰ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਉਹ ਮੋਆਬੀ ਔਰਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਆਬ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਆਈ ਹੈ।

7 ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕੀ ਉਹ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਨਾਜ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ, ਸ਼ਰਣ-ਸਥਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਥੋੜਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਅਰਾਮ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਸਵੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਤਾਈਂ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।”

8 ਤਾਂ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਰੂਥ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਸੁਣ, ਮੇਰੀਏ ਧੀਏ। ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਅਨਾਜ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਠਹਿਰ ਜਾ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ। ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ-ਮਗਰ ਚੱਲਦੀ ਜਾ।

9 ਇਹ ਦੇਖ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਖੇਤ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਜਾ। ਮੈਂ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਤਾਵਨੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੰਗ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਸ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਘੜੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀ ਲਵੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ।”

10 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਝੁਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਜਨਬੀ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।”

11 ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਸ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਉਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਥੇ ਆ ਗਈ।

12 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੇਕ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਲ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਇਵਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”

13 ਤਾਂ ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਾਨ ਜੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਨੌਕਰ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਇੱਕ ਨੌਕਰ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਭਰੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਖੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।”

14 ਦੁਪਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਰੂਥ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇੱਥੇ ਆ ਜਾ! ਸਾਡੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਖਾ ਲੈ। ਇੱਥੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਿਰਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁਬੋ ਲੈ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਰੂਥ ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ। ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਭੁਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਨਾਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਪੇਟ ਭਰਕੇ ਖਾਧਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ।

15 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਰੂਥ ਉੱਠ ਖਲੋਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਰੂਥ ਨੂੰ ਅਨਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਢੇਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਗਿਉ ਵੀ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਿਉ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਿਓ ਨਾ।

16 ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਅਨਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਸਿੱਟੇ ਸੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਆਸਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿਉ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਅਨਾਜ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਣ ਦਿਉ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੰਗ ਨਾ ਕਰਿਉ।”

17 ਨਾਓਮੀ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਤੱਕ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਨਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੜੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਲਗਭਗ 10 ਕਿੱਲੋ ਜੌਁ ਸਨ।

18 ਰੂਥ ਉਹ ਅਨਾਜ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਲੈ ਗਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੀ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਭੋਜਨ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦੁਪਿਹਰ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

19 ਉਸਦੀ ਸੱਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਨਾਜ ਤੂੰ ਕਿੱਥੋਂ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ? ਤੂੰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ? ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੇ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ।” ਫ਼ੇਰ ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅੱਜ ਮੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਹੈ।”

20 ਨਾਓਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਨੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਸਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਰੇ! ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਿਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।” ਫ਼ੇਰ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਨੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਸਾਡੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੈ। ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਸਾਡੇ ਰੱਖਿਅਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੈ।”

21 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ। ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਵਾਢੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੀਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨੇੜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਾਂ।”

22 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਨੂੰਹ ਰੂਥ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਵੀ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।”

23 ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੂਥ ਨੇ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜੌਆਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਵਾਢੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੱਕ ਅਨਾਜ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਵਾਢੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੱਕ ਵੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਰੂਥ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਸ ਨਾਓਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਰਹੀ।

1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.

2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.

3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.

4 And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless thee.

5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?

6 And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:

7 And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.

8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:

9 Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.

12 The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.

13 Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.

14 And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.

15 And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

16 And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.

17 So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.

18 And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.

19 And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man’s name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.

20 And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.

22 And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.

23 So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
