Psalm 89
1 ਅਜ਼ਰਾਂਹੀ ਦੇ ਏਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਗੀਤ। ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਗਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ-ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਉਸਦੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰੀ ਗਾਵਾਂਗਾ।
2 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹੈ, “ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਹੈ। ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰੀ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।”
3 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
4 ‘ਦਾਊਦ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ।’”
5 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਂ। ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਲੋਕ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਰ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
6 ਸਵਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ। “ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ” ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ।
7 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਥ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਇਕੱਠ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਉਹ ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ-ਚੁਫ਼ੇਰੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਡਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
8 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਇੱਥੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਕੀਨ ਰੱਖ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
9 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਂ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਤੂਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ।
10 ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਰਹਬ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਬਾਜੂ ਨਾਲ ਖਿੰਡਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ।
11 ਸਵਰਗ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ। ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚਲਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸਾਜਿਆ।
12 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਸਾਜੀ। ਤਾਬੋਰ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਮੋਨ ਦੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
13 ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੈ। ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੈ। ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਹੈ।
14 ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਰਾਜ ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤਖਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਹਨ।
15 ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਦਯਾ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
16 ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਨੇਕੀ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
17 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਮਤਕਾਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੋ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
18 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ ਹੋ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ।
19 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਤੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਭੀੜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਇੱਕ ਜਵਾਨ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਜਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਜਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
20 ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾਊਦ ਲਈ ਤੱਕਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਾਸ ਤੇਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਸਹ ਕੀਤਾ।
21 ਮੈਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਹੱਥ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
22 ਵੈਰੀ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਹਰਾ ਸੱਕਿਆ। ਕਰੂਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਰਾ ਸੱਕੇ ਸਨ।
23 ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
24 ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ।
25 ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ।
26 ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੇਗਾ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੋ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੋ, ਮੇਰੀ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੁਕਤੀਦਾਤਾ ਹੋ।’
27 ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਹਿਲੋਠਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਉਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਕਰਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
28 ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਮੇਰਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਖਤਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
29 ਉਸਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਹਨ।
30 ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਔਲਾਦਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੱਲਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣਗੇ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੰਡ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।
31 ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਔਲਾਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਨੇਮ ਤੋਂੜਨਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਅਣਡਿੱਠ ਕਰਨਗੇ।
32 ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਖਤ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।
33 ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਹਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਰਹਾਂਗਾ।
34 ਮੈਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਰਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੋੜਾਂਗਾ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੋੜਾਂਗਾ।
35 ਆਪਣੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲਾਂਗਾ।
36 ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਸੂਰਜ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੱਕ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
37 ਇਹ ਚੰਨ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਰਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਬੂਤ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਕਰਾਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।”
38 ਪਰ ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਹਿਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕਲਿਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
39 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਤਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
40 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਢਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
41 ਜੋ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸਦੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
42 ਤੁਸਾਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੰਗ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
43 ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।
44 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਤਖਤ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਡੇਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
45 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਘਟਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਸਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
46 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਇਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ? ਕੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਣਗੌਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ? ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਕਹਿਰ ਸਦਾ ਅੱਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਬਲਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ?
47 ਯਾਦ ਕਰੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਿੰਨੀ ਛੋਟੀ ਹੈ: ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਥੋੜਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਜਿਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਮਰ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਸੀ।
48 ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੀਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰੇਗਾ। ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਬਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚੇਗਾ।
49 ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਤੀਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਸੀ? ਤੁਸਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੇ।
50 ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤੀ ਭਰੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਨੀਆਂ ਪਈਆਂ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
51 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿਉ। ਆਮੀਨ ਫੇਰ ਆਮੀਨ।
1 Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
2 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
3 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
4 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
5 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
6 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
7 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?
8 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
9 O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
10 Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
11 Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.
12 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
13 The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
14 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
15 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
16 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
17 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
18 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
19 For the Lord is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
20 Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
21 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
22 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.
23 The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
24 And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.
25 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
26 I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
27 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
28 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
29 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
30 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
31 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
32 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
33 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
34 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
35 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
36 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
37 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
38 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
39 But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
40 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
41 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
42 All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.
43 Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
44 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
45 Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
46 The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
47 How long, Lord? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?
48 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
49 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
50 Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
51 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
52 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
53 Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellers, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
