1 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਭੀੜ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ,

2 ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੀ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ।

3 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕਹਿਣ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਰੋ, ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਚੰਗੇ ਉਦਾਹਰਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਖੁਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।

4 ਉਹ ਸਖਤ ਨੇਮ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੰਨਣ ਲਈ ਬੜੇ ਕਠੋਰ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਨੇਮ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।

5 “ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਭ ਕੰਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਲਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਾਸ ਬਸਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਸਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਬਾਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਣ।

6 ਉਹ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਦਾਵਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਭੀ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਉੱਚੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਮਿੱਲਣ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਹਨ।

7 ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਨ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਬੜੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਹਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

8 “ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਭ ਗੁਰੂ, ਨਾ ਕਹਾਉਣਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਭ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਹੋ।

9 ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਾ ਆਖੋ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਵਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

10 ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਾਉਣਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਵੀ ਇੱਕੋ ਭਾਵ ਮਸੀਹਾ ਹੈ।

11 ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ।

12 ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਦੀਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਜਾਣੇਗਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

13 “ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕੋ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਪਟੀ ਹੋ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਵਰਗ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੜਚਨਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਖੁਦ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਜੋ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।”

15 “ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕੋ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ ਹੈ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਪਟੀ ਹੋ! ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲਣ ਲਈ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ। ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਦੁੱਗਣਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਇੰਨੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਵੋਂਗੇ।

16 “ਹੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਰਾਹ ਨੁਮਾਓ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ, ‘ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਵੇ ਇਸਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੌਂਹ ਬੱਧ ਹੈ।’

17 ਮੂਰੱਖੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ! ਕਿਹੜਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ? ਸੋਨਾ ਜਾਂ ਮੰਦਰ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ ਸੋਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ।

18 “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ, ‘ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੱਗਵੇਦੀ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਦੀ ਭੇਂਟ ਦੀ ਸੌਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੌਂਹ ਬੱਧ ਹੈ।’

19 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ! ਕਿਹੜੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੈ: ਭੇਟ, ਜਾਂ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ, ਜੋ ਭੇਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ?

20 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉਪਰਲੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

21 ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

22 ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਵਰਗ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਬੈਠਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

23 “ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕੋ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਪਟੀ ਹੋ! ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪੁਦੀਨੇ, ਸੌਂਫ਼ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਰੇ ਦਾ ਦਸੌਂਧ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਵੱਧ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਪੂਰਣ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਅਣਗਹਿਲੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ, ਜੋ ਨਿਆਂ, ਦਇਆ, ਅਤੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰੀ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਅਸੂਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਣਗਹਿਲੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਅਮਲ ਕਰੋ।

24 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਆਗੂ ਹੋ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਹੋ ਜੋ ਮਛਰ-ਮਖੀ ਤਾਂ ਪੁਣ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਊਠ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਗਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

25 “ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ ਹੈ, ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕੋ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਪਟੀ ਹੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਟੋਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਥਾਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ। ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਗਾਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

26 ਹੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ! ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਟੋਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਥਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰੋ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਵੀ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੋਣਗੇ।

27 “ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ, ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕੋ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਪਟੀ ਹੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਲੀ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਕਬਰਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੋ, ਜੋ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਸੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਦਿਸਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਜੋ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਡੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਣਧੋਤੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।”

28 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਹੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਪਟਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋ।

29 “ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਨਤ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕੋ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਓ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਪਟੀ ਹੋ। ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਕਬਰਾਂ ਬਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਬਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ।

30 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ, ‘ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ।’

31 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹੋ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ।

32 ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਿਉ-ਦਾਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ।

33 “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੱਪ ਹੋ! ਹੇ ਸਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਿਓ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਨਿਆਂੇ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਚੋਂਗੇ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨਰਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜੇਗਾ?

34 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਵੇਖੋ ਮੈਂ ਨਬੀਆਂ, ਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਦਾ ਹਾਂ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਵੋਂਗੇ; ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਲੀਬ ਦੇ ਦਿਉਂਗੇ, ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ-ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋੜੇ ਮਾਰੋਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੋਂ-ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ।

35 “ਹਾਂ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧਰਮੀ ਹਾਬਲ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਤੱਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੇ। ਬਕਰਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

36 ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਇਹ ਸਭ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਇਸ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉਪਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ।

37 ਯਿਸੂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਤਾਵਨੀ “ਹੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ, ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕਿੰਨੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਚਾਹਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੁਕੜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੂਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੰਭਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ।

38 ਵੇਖ, ਤੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਸਖਣਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

39 ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖੇਂਗਾ ਤਦ ਤੱਕ ਜਦ ਸਭ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿਣਗੇ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।”

1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:

3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
