1 ਲੂਕਾ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਥਿਉਫ਼ਿਲੁਸ, ਜੋ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਵਾਪਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਲਿਖਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

2 ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਉਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਢੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਵਾਪਰਦਿਆਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ।

3 ਮਾਣ ਯੋਗ ਥਿਉਫ਼ਿਲੁਸ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮੁਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਸਭ ਕਾਸੇ ਦਾ ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕਰਮਵਾਰ ਦੱਸਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ।

4 ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸੱਕੋਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ।

5 ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉੱਥੇ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਨਾਉਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਜਕ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਅਬੀਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਜਾਜਕ ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਾਰੂਨ ਦੇ ਖਾਨਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ।

6 ਉਹ ਦੋਨੋਂ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਸੂਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਨਿਆ। ਉਹ ਦੋਨੋ ਜਨੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਰਹਿਤ ਸਨ।

7 ਪਰ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਔਲਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਬਾਂਝ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਸਨ।

8 ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਲਈ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਜਕ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਾ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਪਸਥਿਤ ਸੀ।

9 ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਵਾਜ਼ ਦੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਪਰਚੀਆਂ ਪਾਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਕੇ ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

10 ਜਿਸ ਵਕਤ ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਸੀ, ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।

11 ਤਦ ਜ਼ਕਰ੍ਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਧੂਪ ਦੀ ਵੇਦੀ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਤ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਦਿਖਿਆ।

12 ਜਦੋਂ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬੜਾ ਘਬਰਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰ ਲਿਆ।

13 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਡਰ ਨਾ! ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ। ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਰੱਖੀਂ।

14 ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੜੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕ ਵੀ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੀ ਜੰਮਣ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਣਗੇ।

15 ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਮੈਅ ਜਾਂ ਨਸ਼ੀਲੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀਵੇਗਾ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

16 “ਉਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਆਵੇਗਾ।

17 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਖੁਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ-ਅੱਗੇ ਚੱਲੇਗਾ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੋ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਕੋਲ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਪਿਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ, ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”

18 ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਦ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ।”

19 ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਰਮਾਇਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਜ਼ਿਬਰਾਏਲ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

20 ਹੁਣ ਸੁਣ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤੂੰ ਚੁੱਪ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ। ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਆਖੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ, ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।”

21 ਬਾਹਰ ਲੋਕ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੰਨਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਲਾਇਆ।

22 ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਗੂੰਗਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ਼ਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਿਆ।

23 ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਘਰ ਵਾਪਿਸ ਮੁੜ ਆਇਆ।

24 ਫ਼ਿਰ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪੰਜ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਘਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾ ਗਈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ,

25 “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵੇਖੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਬਾਂਝ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਕਲੰਕ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ।”

26 ਕੁਆਰੀ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਗਰਭ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਛੇਵੇਂ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਜ਼ਿਬਰਾਏਲ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਾਸਰਤ ਨਾਮੀ ਗਲੀਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਕੁਆਰੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਕੁੜੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨਾਉਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੜਮਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਕੁੜੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਸੀ।

27 ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਕੁੜੀ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹੋਵੇ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਹੈ।”

28 ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣੇ, ਉਹ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਘਬਰਾ ਗਈ। ਉਹ ਸੋਚਣ ਲੱਗੀ, “ਇਸ ਸ਼ੁਭਕਾਮਨਾ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਅਰਥ ਹੋਇਆ।”

29 ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮਰਿਯਮ, ਤੂੰ ਘਬਰਾ ਨਾ, ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੈ।

30 ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖ! ਤੂੰ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੋਵੇਂਗੀ, ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਣੇਂਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਰੱਖਣਾ।

31 ਉਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਤ ਉੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਆਖਣਗੇ। ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਤਖਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

32 ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਖਤਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।”

33 ਤਾਂ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੇ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਾਪਰੇਗਾ? ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਜੇ ਕੁਆਰੀ ਹਾਂ!”

34 ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਤ ਉੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਕਰੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਾਲਕ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕਹਾਵੇਗਾ।

35 ਅਤੇ ਸੁਣ, ਤੇਰੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਵੀ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੈ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਬੜੀ ਬੁੱਢੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਚਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਔਰਤ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਬਾਂਝ ਆਖਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਨੂੰ ਛੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ!

36 ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”

37 ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਹਾਂ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਹੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਰੇ!” ਤਦ ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ।

38 ਮਰਿਯਮ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਗਰ ਨੂੰ ਗਈ।

39 ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਵੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਮ ਕੀਤਾ।

40 ਜਦੋਂ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਨੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਭਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਕੁੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਚਾ ਉੱਛਲ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

41 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਬਾਲਕ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ।

42 ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਭਾਗ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ!

43 ਮੈਂ ਕਿੰਨੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਨਸੀਬ ਹਾਂ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਕੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਛਲ ਪਿਆ।

44 ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ! ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਹੀਆਂ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।”

45 ਮਰਿਯਮ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ,

46 “ਮੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਿਲ ਬੜਾ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੁਕਤੀਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ।

47 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੀਨ ਦਾਸੀ ਵੱਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹਾਂ, ਹੁਣ ਤੋਂ ਸਭ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਆਖਣਗੇ,

48 ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਇਸ ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਮਹਾਨ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ।

49 ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਡਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਲਾਦਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

50 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਿਖਾਈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖਿੰਡਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

51 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੀਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਉੱਠਾਇਆ।

52 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੁੱਖਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੱਥੀ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

53 ਉਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖੀਏ।

54 ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ, ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀਆਂ ਉਲਾਦਾਂ, ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਵਚਨ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ।”

55 ਮਰਿਯਮ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਨਾਲ ਤਿੰਨ ਕੁ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਘਰ ਮੁੜ ਆਈ।

56 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਲੀਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਜਣਨ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ।

57 ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਦਯਾ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਸ਼ਨ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ।

58 ਜਦੋਂ ਬਾਲਕ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਨਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਰੱਖਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਸੀ।

59 ਪਰ ਉਸਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਨਹੀਂ! ਉਹ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਸਦਵਾਏਗਾ।”

60 ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨਾਉਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ।”

61 ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਵੱਲ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ “ਉਹ ਉਸਦਾ ਕੀ ਨਾਉਂ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?”

62 ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਮੰਗਵਾਕੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਿ, “ਇਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਹੈ।” ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ।

63 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲਣ ਲਗ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

64 ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਂਢੀ-ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਇਹ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਘਬਰਾ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਖੇਤ੍ਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ।

65 ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਬੱਚਾ ਕੀ ਬਣੇਂਗਾ?” ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਉਸ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ।

66 ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਦ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਗਾ ਕਿ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰੇਗਾ:

67 “ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੋਵੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

68 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਮੁਕਤੀਦਾਤਾ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।

69 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਵਾਦੇ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

70 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਵਾਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

71 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਵਾਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਿਉ-ਦਾਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਵਾਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ।

72 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ, ਸਾਡੇ ਪੂਰਵਜ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ

73 ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਦੁਆਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਹੋਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕੀਏ

74 ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਰਹਾਂਗੇ।

75 “ਹੇ ਬਾਲਕ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਤ ਉੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਨਬੀ ਅਖਵਾਏਂਗਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ-ਅੱਗੇ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਰਾਹ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ।

76 ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਫ਼ੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬਚਾਏ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

77 “ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਦਯਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ, ਇੱਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਵੇਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਵੇਗੀ।

78 ਇਹ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਵੇਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਮਕੇਗੀ ਜੋ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਪਰਛਾਵੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਦਮ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵੱਲ ਵੱਧ ਸੱਕਣ।”

79 ਇਉਂ ਉਹ ਛੋਟਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਬਣਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਤੀਕਰ, ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ।

1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.

8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,

9 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.

10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.

11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.

22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,

25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;

40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.

41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;

55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

57 Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.

58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.

59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.

61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.

65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.

66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
