Judges 9:46
ਉੱਥੇ ਸ਼ਕਮ ਵਿੱਚਲੇ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਕਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਜਾਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਏਲ ਬੇਰੀਥ, ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਕ ਗਏ।

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਮਰਿਆ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰੀ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇ-ਉਹ ਬਆਲ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਆਲ ਬਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਕਮ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਬੀਮਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ 70 ਸਿੱਕੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਇਹ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਬਆਲ ਬਰੀਥ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਸੀ। ਅਬੀਮਲਕ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ। ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਅਬੀਮਲਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ।

ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਸ਼ਕਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਤੋੜਨ ਗਏ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਗੂਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਅ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਨਿਚੋੜਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਦਾਵਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਖਾਧਾ-ਪੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਬੀਮਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਆਖਿਆ।

ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਹੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਨਿਭਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੀਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਅਹਜ਼ਯਾਹ ਸਾਮਰਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਛੱਤ (ਚੁਬਾਰੇ) ਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜੀ ਦੀ ਜਾਲੀਦਾਰ ਤਾਕੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸੱਟ ਲਗੀ। ਤਦ ਅਹਜ਼ਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਅਕਰੋਨ ਦੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਬਆਲ-ਜ਼ਬੂਬ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਕੇ ਇਹ ਪੁੱਛੋ ਕਿ ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਸੱਟ ਤੋਂ ਠੀਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ?”

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੁੱਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

ਤੁਸੀਂ ਲੋਕੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਮੌਤ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਰਾਰਨਾਮਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਿਓਲ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਨ) ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ। ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਚੁਸਤ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠਾਂ ਦੇ ਓਹਲੇ ਛੁਪ ਜਾਵਾਂਗੇ।”
ਯਸਈਆਹ 37:38
ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ, ਸਨਹੇਰੀਬ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਨਿਸਰੋਕ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ, ਅੰਦਰਮਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਸਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਹ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਰਾਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਨਹੇਰੀਬ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਏਸਰ-ਹੱਦੋਨ ਅੱਸ਼ੂਰ ਦਾ ਨਵਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
