ਯੂਹੰਨਾ 1

1 ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਆਦਿ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੀ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਸੀ। ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਸੀ।

2 ਉਹ ਆਦਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਸੀ।

3 ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਗਿਆ।

4 ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਸੀ।

5 ਉਹ ਚਾਨਣ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ।

6 ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

7 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ, ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦੇਣ ਆਇਆ। ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਚਾਨਣ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਣ।

8 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਖੁਦ ਉਹ ਚਾਨਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਾਖੀ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ।

9 ਅਸਲ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਅਸਲ ਚਾਨਣ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

10 ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰਚਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ।

11 ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ।

12 ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

13 ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਵਾਂਗ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਰੀਰਕ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾਲ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਨਾਲ, ਜਨਮੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਜਨਮੇ ਸਨ।

14 ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ। ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦੇਖੀ। ਉਹ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਜੋ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਇੱਕਲੌਤੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਚਿਆਈ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸੀ।

15 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹੀ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਮੈਂ ਦੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ, ‘ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਦ ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਵੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਵੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।’”

16 ਉਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸੀ। ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਅਸੀਸਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ।

17 ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਮੂਸਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਯਿਸੂ ਮਸੀਹ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਈ।

18 ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇੱਕਲੌਤਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਜੋ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਹੈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੌਣ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈ।

19 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੇਵੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਹੈਂ।”

20 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸਾਫ਼ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਮਸੀਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।”

21 ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਫਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਹੈ?” ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਨਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।” ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਬੀ ਹੈ?” ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਨਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।”

22 ਤਾਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਫਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਹੈਂ? ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਸੱਕੀਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ?”

23 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਬੀ ਯਸਾਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਖੇ: “ਮੈਂ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਕਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਹਾਂ: ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਰਾਹ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ।’”

24 ਇਹ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਭੇਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।

25 ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮਸੀਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਨਬੀ। ਫਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ?”

26 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ।

27 ਉਹ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਜੁੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਤਸਮੇ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।”

28 ਇਹ ਸਭ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬੈਤਅਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਰਦਨ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਪਾਰ ਹੋਈਆਂ। ਉੱਥੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

29 ਯਿਸੂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਲੇਲਾ ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ। ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਦੇਖੋ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਲੇਲਾ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

30 ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ‘ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਦ ਆਵੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਵੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਵੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ।’

31 ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸਾਂ ਉਹ ਕੌਣ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਸੱਕੇ।”

32 ਫਿਰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸਾਂ ਕਿ ਮਸੀਹ ਕੌਣ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ, ‘ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਥਿਰ ਵੇਖੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।’ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਵਾਪਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਘੁੱਗੀ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤਰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਰਾਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ‘ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ।’”

33 ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ। ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਚੇਲੇ ਸਨ।

34 ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਦੇਖੋ! ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਲੇਲਾ।”

35 ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ, ਜੋ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਸੁਣਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ।

36 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਗਰ ਆਉਂਦਿਆ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ?” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਰੱਬੀ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਠਹਿਰੇ ਹੋ?” (“ਰੱਬੀ” ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ “ਗੁਰੂ”)

37 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਆਓ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਖੋ।” ਸੋ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਥਾਂ ਦੇਖੀ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ। ਇਹ ਚਾਰ ਕੁ ਵਜੇ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ।

38 ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਬਾਰੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਅੰਦ੍ਰਿਯਾਸ ਸੀ। ਅੰਦ੍ਰਿਯਾਸ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੀ।

39 ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦ੍ਰਿਯਾਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਮਸੀਹਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।” (“ਮਸੀਹਾ” ਮਤਲਬ “ਮਸੀਹ”)

40 ਅੰਦ੍ਰਿਯਾਸ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ “ਤੂੰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਕੇਫ਼ਾਸ ਸਦਵਾਵੇਂਗਾ” (“ਕੇਫ਼ਾਸ” ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਹੈ “ਪਤਰਸ”)

41 ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਚਾਹਿਆ ਉਹ ਗਲੀਲ ਜਾਵੇ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰ।”

42 ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਬੈਤਸੈਦੇ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉੱਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅੰਦ੍ਰਿਯਾਸ ਤੇ ਪਤਰਸ ਸਨ।

43 ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੇ ਨਥਾਨਿਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਮੂਸਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੂਸਾ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਮਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਨਬੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਿਸੂ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਨਾਸਰਤ ਦਾ ਹੈ।”

44 ਪਰ ਨਥਾਨਿਏਲ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਨਾਸਰਤ! ਭਲਾ ਨਾਸਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਤਮ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਸੱਕਦੀ ਹੈ?” ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਆ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖ”

45 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਨਥਾਨਿਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਛੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”

46 ਨਥਾਨਿਏਲ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ?” ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਓਦੋਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਜੀਰ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਥੱਲੇ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਦਸਿਆ।”

47 ਫ਼ਿਰ ਨਥਾਨਿਏਲ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਰੱਬੀ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੋ।”

48 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਨਥਾਨਿਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅੰਜੀਰ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਥੱਲੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਸਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੇਖੇਂਗਾ!”

49 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਵਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਵੇਖੋਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਤਰਦੇ ਵੇਖੋਂਗੇ।”

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
