ਇਉਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਲੀ ਇੱਕ ਗੁਲੇਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੱਥਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਲੇਲ ਨਾਲ ਰੋੜਾ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ। ਦਾਊਦ ਕੋਲ ਕੋਈ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।

ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਬਖਤਰ ਉੱਪਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੱਲਣ ਦਾ ਉਦਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਵਸਤਰ-ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਸਜਾਏ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਆਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।” ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਜਾਜਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇੱਥੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਪਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਉਹੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਏਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਪੇਟੀ ਏਫ਼ੋਦ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਈ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।” ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿਉ। ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”
