ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ! ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ। ਮੈਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।”

ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਨਗੇ। ਹਵਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਡਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਪੱਤੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ। ਉਹ ਭੱਜਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਣਗੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਭੇਜੇਗਾ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਭੁੱਖੇ, ਪਿਆਸੇ, ਨੰਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੇ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤੀਕ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਜੂਲਾ ਪਾਵੇਗਾ।

ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਦੇ 3,000 ਆਦਮੀ ਸਮਸੂਨ ਕੋਲ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਏਟਾਮ ਦੀ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਨੇੜੇ ਦੀ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਕੋਲ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਿ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ?” ਸਮਸੂਨ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।”

ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮੂਸੀਬਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਖੁੰਦਰਾਂ, ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਫ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਾੜਾ ਦੇ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਅਹੁਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਲੁਕਣ ਲੱਗੇ। ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੀ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਥੱਲੇ ਗੜ੍ਹਿਆਂ ’ਚ ਖੂਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਟੋਇਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਕ ਗਏ।

ਤਦ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਿਜ਼ਕੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਅੱਸ਼ੂਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਕੀਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੁੱਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਮੁੜ ਜਾ। ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਚਾਹੇ ਮੈਂ ਭਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ।” ਤਦ ਅੱਸ਼ੂਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ 10,200 ਕਿੱਲੋ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਅਤੇ 10,20 ਕਿੱਲੋ ਸੋਨਾ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਿਜ਼ਕੀਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ।
