ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਨੌਕਰ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਿਗਾਹਬਾਨ ਸੀ। ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰੀ ਲੱਤ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖ।

ਹੁਣ ਸਮਾਂ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੱਦਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਮੇਰੀ ਲੱਤ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕਰ। ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਮਰਾ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਫ਼ਨਾਉਣਾ।

ਅਦੋਨੀਯਾਹ ਵੀ ਸੁਲੇਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਜਗਵੇਦੀ ਦੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਜਾ ਫ਼ੜਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸਤੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਕਰੇ।

ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਚਨ ਨਿਭਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਰਾਜ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਪਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ, ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਅਦੋਨੀਯਾਹ ਮਰੇਗਾ।”

ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ: ਏਰ, ਓਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਲਾਹ। ਬਥਸ਼ੂਆ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਕਨਾਨਣ ਸੀ। ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲੋਠਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਏਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਰਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ।

ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੁਲੇਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਖਿਆ।

ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੱਠੀ ਨਾ ਬਣੋ ਸਗੋਂ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨੋ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅੱਤ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਆਓ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੋ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਵੇਂ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਰੋਪੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

ਪਰ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਚਕੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਸੱਕੇਗਾ। ਕਿਉਂ? ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕਰਾਰਨਾਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖੋਁ ਪਰੋਖੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਬੂਕਦਨੱਸਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਇਕਰਾਰਨਾਮਾ ਤੋੜਿਆ।”
