ਯਿਫ਼ਤਾਹ ਗਿਲਆਦ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਯਿਫ਼ਤਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੇਸਵਾ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ। ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਗਿਲਆਦ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੀ।
