Genesis 37:35
ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ, ਧੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪਰ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਦਿਲ ਨਾ ਧਰਿਆ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੱਕ ਸੋਗ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂਗਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦਾ ਸੋਗ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।

| comfort to | לְנַֽחֲמ֗וֹ | lĕnaḥămô | leh-na-huh-MOH |
| him; but he refused | וַיְמָאֵן֙ | waymāʾēn | vai-ma-ANE |
| to be comforted; | לְהִתְנַחֵ֔ם | lĕhitnaḥēm | leh-heet-na-HAME |
| said, he and | וַיֹּ֕אמֶר | wayyōʾmer | va-YOH-mer |
| For | כִּֽי | kî | kee |
| I will go down | אֵרֵ֧ד | ʾērēd | ay-RADE |
| into the grave | אֶל | ʾel | el |
| unto | בְּנִ֛י | bĕnî | beh-NEE |
| my son | אָבֵ֖ל | ʾābēl | ah-VALE |
| mourning. | שְׁאֹ֑לָה | šĕʾōlâ | sheh-OH-la |
| Thus his father | וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ | wayyēbĕk | va-YAY-vek |
| wept | אֹת֖וֹ | ʾōtô | oh-TOH |
