Ezra 7
1 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਦਾ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਫਾਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਰਤਹਸ਼ਸ਼ਤਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਸਰਾਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਾਬਲ ਤੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ। ਸਰਾਯਾਹ ਅਜ਼ਰਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ। ਅਜ਼ਰਯਾਹ ਹਿਲਕੀਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
2 ਹਿਲਕੀਯਾਹ ਸ਼ੱਲੂਮ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਲੂਮ ਸਾਦੋਕ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ। ਸਾਦੋਕ ਆਹੀਟੂਬ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
3 ਅਹੀਟੂਬ ਅਮਰਯਾਹ ਦਾ, ਅਮਰਯਾਹ ਅਜ਼ਰਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਜ਼ਰਯਾਹ ਮਰਾਯੋਬ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
4 ਮਰਾਯੋਬ ਜ਼ਰਹਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਰਹਯਾਹ ਉਜ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਜ਼ੀ ਬੁੱਕੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
5 ਬੁੱਕੀ ਅਬੀਸ਼ੂਆ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਅਬੀਸ਼ੂਆ ਫੀਨਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਫੀਨਹਾਸ ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜਾਜਕ ਹਾਰੂਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
6 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਉਸਤਾਦ ਸੀ ਬਾਬਲ ਤੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਨੂੰ ਭਲੀ-ਭਾਂਤੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ। ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਵਸਤ ਜੋ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਨੇ ਚਾਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਸੀ।
7 ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਜਕ, ਲੇਵੀ, ਗਵੱਈਯੇ, ਦਰਬਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਅਰਤਹਸ਼ਸ਼ਤਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਸੱਤਵੇਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਏ।
8 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਅਰਤਹਸ਼ਸ਼ਤਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਸੱਤਵੇਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਵੇਂ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਆਇਆ।
9 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਬੀ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਬਾਬਲ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਵੇਂ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਏ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ।
10 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਨਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਾਇਆ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਿਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
11 ਅਰਤਹਸ਼ਸ਼ਤਾ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਉਸਤਾਦ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਿਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ। ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਰਤਹਸ਼ਸ਼ਤਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਦੀ ਨਕਲ ਇਉਂ ਸੀ:
12 ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਅਰਤਹਸ਼ਤਤਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ, ਜਾਜਕ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ, ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਦੇ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਮ!
13 ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਕਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਜਾਜਕ ਜਾਂ ਲੇਵੀ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਨਾਲ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
14 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਤ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖ ਕਿ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਕੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ।
15 ਮੈਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਲਈ ਸੋਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਭੇਂਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੋਨਾ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਜਾਵੀਂ।
16 ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਤ, ਜੋ ਵੀ ਸੋਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਾਬਲ ਦੇ ਸੂਬਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਿੱਬੋ ਕਿਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਇੱਕਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਲਵੋ। ਉਹ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਸੁਗਾਤ ਲੈ ਲਵੋ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਜਕ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਲਈ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਇਛਿੱਤ ਹਨ।
17 ਖਾਸੱਕਰ ਉਸ ਪੈਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਬਲਦ, ਭੇਡੂ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਲੇ ਖਰੀਦੀਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਨਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੇਟਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੀਣ ਦੀ ਭੇਟਾਂ ਖਰੀਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਜਗਵਦੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੀਂ।
18 ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਬਚੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਨਾਲ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਕਰੀਂ।
19 ਜਿਹੜੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਲਈ ਸੌਂਪੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੀਂ।
20 ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਲਈ ਲੋੜੀਂਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਲਈ ਧੰਨ ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵਰਤ ਲਵੀਂ।
21 ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ, ਅਤਰਹਸ਼ਤਤਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਇਹ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ: ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖਜਾਨਚੀ ਜੋ ਫ਼ਰਾਤ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇਣ। ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਦਾ ਉਸਤਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਜਕ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਬੜੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।
22 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਹੋ ਸੱਕੇ: 3,400 ਕਿਲੋ ਚਾਂਦੀ, 600 ਬੁਸ਼ਲ ਕਣਕ, 600 ਗੈਲਨ ਮੈਅ ਅਤੇ 600 ਗੈਲਨ ਜੈਤੂਨ ਦਾ ਤੇਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਾਹੇ ਲੈਣ ਦਿਓ।
23 ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਲਈ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ। ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ। ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਜ ਜਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋਵੇ।
24 ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ, ਲੇਵੀਆਂ, ਗਵੈਯਾਂ, ਦਰਬਾਨਾਂ, ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਕਰ ਲੈਣਾ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਹੈ।
25 ਹੇ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਕਰ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਫਰਾਤ ਦਰਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਪਾਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਣ। ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਿਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਨਜਾਣ ਹਨ।
26 ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਬਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਂਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ। ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸਜ੍ਹਾ, ਦੇਸ਼ ਨਿਕਾਲਾ, ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੰਡ ਜਾਂ ਕੈਦ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ।
27 ਅਜ਼ਰਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਪਾਈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ
28 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਰਸਾਈ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਬਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕਤਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੋਇਆ।
1 Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,
2 The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,
3 The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,
4 The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,
5 The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:
6 This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the Lord his God upon him.
7 And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
8 And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.
9 For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.
10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
11 Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of his statutes to Israel.
12 Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.
13 I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
14 Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellers, to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;
15 And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellers have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,
16 And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:
17 That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
18 And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.
19 The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.
20 And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king’s treasure house.
21 And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
22 Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.
23 Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
24 Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.
26 And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
27 Blessed be the Lord God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem:
28 And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellers, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the Lord my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
1 When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
2 And came even before the king’s gate: for none might enter into the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.
3 And in every province, whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
4 So Esther’s maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
5 Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king’s chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
6 So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king’s gate.
7 And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
8 Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
9 And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
10 Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
11 All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
12 And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words.
13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.
14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
