ਇਹੀ ਉਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਮੂਸਾ ਨੇ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਧੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਅੱਧੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਿਲੀ:

ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।”
Genesis 48:5
ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਤੇਰੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ। ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਰਊਬੇਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਓਨ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ।

ਪਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵੱਧਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੱਜਾ ਹੱਥ ਛੋਟੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਖੱਬਾ ਹੱਥ ਵੱਡੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਪਹਿਲੋਠਾ ਸੀ।
