Acts 23
1 ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੇ ਬੜੇ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਮਹਾ ਸਭਾ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਭਰਾਵੋ, ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਦਿਨ ਤੱਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਿਤਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਹੀ ਸੀ।”
2 ਹਨਾਨਿਯਾਹ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਵੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਖਦੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਮਾਰੋ।
3 ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੇ ਹਨਾਨਿਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕੁੱਟੇਗਾ। ਤੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮੈਲੀ ਕੰਧ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਸਫ਼ੇਦ ਰੋਗਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਉੱਥੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟਣ। ਇਹ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਹੈ।”
4 ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।”
5 ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਭਰਾਵੋ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਪਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ‘ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।’”
6 ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ, ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਸਦੂਕੀ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ। ਸੋ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵਿੱਚਾਰ ਆਇਆ। ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ-ਉੱਚੀ ਰੌਲਾ ਪਾਇਆ, “ਭਰਾਵੋ, ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਉ ਵੀ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਸੀ। ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀ ਉੱਠਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।”
7 ਜਦੋਂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੇ ਇਉਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਤਾਂ ਸਦੂਕੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਹਿਸ ਛਿੜ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ੁੱਟ ਪੈ ਗਈ।
8 (ਸਦੂਕੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਜੀ ਉੱਠਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਇੱਥੇ ਦੂਤ ਜਾਂ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ।)
9 ਸਾਰੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ-ਉੱਚੀ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਮਚਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਕੁਝ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਕ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਸਨ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਬਹਿਸ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਗਲਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਿਆ। ਇਹ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਆਤਮਾ ਜਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਤ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ।”
10 ਬਹਿਸ ਝਗੜ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਗਈ। ਸਰਦਾਰ ਘਬਰਾ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਚਿਥੜੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਗੇ। ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੈਨਾ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ, ਕਿਹਾ।
11 ਅਗਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਯਿਸੂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਰੱਖ। ਤੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਰੋਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਕੇ ਵੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਾਖੀ ਕਰ।”
12 ਕੁਝ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਕੁਝ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਸਾਜਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਮਤਾ ਪਕਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਨਾ ਮੁਕਾਉਣਗੇ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣਗੇ।
13 ਚਾਲ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਜਿਸ਼ ਰਚੀ।
14 ਇਹ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਧੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਓਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਖਾਵਾਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਪੀਵਾਂਗੇ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਈਏ।
15 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੈਨਾ ਦੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਭੇਜੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਵਾਓ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁੱਛ-ਗਿੱਛ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵੱਲ ਲਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਵਾਂਗੇ।”
16 ਪਰ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਣਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਾਜਿਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ। ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੈਨਾ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
17 ਤਦ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੈਨਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਸ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਾਂਡਰ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੋ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।”
18 ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੈਨਾ-ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਣਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੈਨਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕੈਦੀ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੌਜੁਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।”
19 ਸੈਨਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫ਼ੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਇੱਕਾਂਤ ਜਗ਼੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?”
20 ਉਸ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਣਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੱਲ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕਹਿਣਗੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਸਵਾਲ ਪੁੱਛਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
21 ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਨਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਚਾਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਛੁੱਪੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਧੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਣਗੇ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਪੀਣਗੇ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ। ਸੋ ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।”
22 ਸਰਦਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਦੱਸੀਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।”
23 ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਸਰਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੇਜਣਾ ਤਦ ਕਮਾਂਡਰ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਸੂਬੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਵਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੈਸਰਿਯਾ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੋ ਸੌ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਤਿਆਰ ਰੱਖੋ, ਸੱਤਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ ਸੌ ਆਦਮੀ ਭਾਲੇ ਬਰਦਾਰ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ ਰਾਤ ਨੌ ਵਜੇ ਰਵਾਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ।
24 ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕੁਝ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਮ ਕਰੋ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ੇਲਿਕਸ ਹਾਕਮ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਣਾ ਹੈ।”
25 ਸੈਨਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੀ;
26 ਕਲੌਦਿਯੁਸ ਲੁਸਿਯਸ ਦੇ ਹਾਕਮ ਫ਼ੇਲਿਕਸ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ।
27 ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਰਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਰੋਮੀ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਵਕਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਇਆ।
28 ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਜਾਨਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਕਾਰਣ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਲਗਾਏ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।
29 ਉੱਥੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ; ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਦ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਲਾਏ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਦਾਵ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਜਾਂ ਕੈਦ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
30 ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਸਾਜਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਇਸਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹਨ।
31 ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਉਸ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਿਪਤ੍ਰਿਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਗਏ।
32 ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਘੁੜਸਵਾਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਸਰਿਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਗਏ। ਪਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਲਾ ਬਰਦਾਰ ਸੈਨਾ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਮੁੜ ਗਏ।
33 ਘੁੜਸਵਾਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਕੈਸਰਿਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਚਿਠੀ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਫ਼ੇਲਿਕਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
34 ਹਾਕਮ ਨੇ ਚਿਠੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਹੈਂ?” ਉਹ ਜਾਣ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਕਿਲਿਕਿਯਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ।
35 ਹਾਕਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪਹਿਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੁੱਦਈ ਵੀ ਆ ਜਾਣ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਣਾਂਗਾ।” ਫ਼ਿਰ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਨੇ ਪੌਲੁਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਜ਼ਰਬੰਦ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
1 And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
2 And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.
3 Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?
4 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?
5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.
9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.
10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.
11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.
15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
16 And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
17 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.
18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.
19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.
22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.
23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;
24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.
25 And he wrote a letter after this manner:
26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.
27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.
28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.
31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.
32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:
33 Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.
34 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;
35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.
1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:
24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:
31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
