ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਫ਼ੜਾਂਗਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਥੱਕਿਆ-ਹਾਰਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਦਾਊਦ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਾਂਗਾ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਹਬਰੋਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੜ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਯੋਆਬ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੌਲੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਡਿਓੜੀ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਨੁਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਵੱਲ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਸਲੀ ਦੇ ਹੇਠ, ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਦੇ ਖੂਨ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ। ਇਉਂ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਘਾਟ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
