2 Samuel 23
1 ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਬਚਨ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸ਼ਬਦ: “ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਯੱਸੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉੱਚਾ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਮਸਹ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ ਦਾ ਮਨਪਸੰਦ ਸੀ।
2 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੀ।
3 ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੀ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ‘ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਧਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਭੌ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
4 ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਵੇਰ ਦੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਅਜਿਹੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਦਲ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਖਾ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਚਮਕਦੀ ਧੁੱਪ ਵਰਗਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਘਾਹ ਵਰਗਾ, ਜੋ ਮੀਂਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਧੁੱਪ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਪਰ ਉੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।’
5 “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਰਾਰਨਾਮਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਠੀਕ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਕਾ ਹੈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਜੇਤੂ ਰੱਖੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਇੱਛਾਵਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ!
6 “ਪਰ ਬੇਧਰਮੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਡਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਲਾਂਭੇ ਸੁੱਟੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ।
7 ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ ਲਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਛਿਲਤਰ ਜਾਂ ਸੂਈ ਵਾਂਗ ਕਿੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਚੁੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਕੰਡਿਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਝੋਂਕੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾੜੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।”
8 ਤਿੰਨ ਨਾਇੱਕ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਇਹ ਹਨ: ਤਾਹਕਮੋਨੀ ਯੋਸ਼ੇਬ-ਬੱਸ਼ਬਥ ਉਹ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਰਛੇ ਨਾਲ 800 ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ।
9 ਇਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੋਦੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਅਹੋਹੀ ਸੀ। ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਿ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੰਗਾਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਭੱਜ ਖੜੋਤੇ ਸਨ।
10 ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਤੱਕ ਲੜਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਜਦ ਤੀਕ ਉਹ ਥਕ ਨਾ ਗਿਆ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਤਦ ਵੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਸ ਕੇ ਫ਼ੜੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਲੜਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਜਿੱਤ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਗਏ ਪਰ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਲੁੱਟ ਮਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੁੜ ਆਏ।
11 ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਹਰਾਰੀ ਅਗੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸ਼ੰਮਾਹ ਸੀ। ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਸਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ।
12 ਪਰ ਸ਼ੰਮਾਹ ਉਸ ਪੈਲੀ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਇਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਇਆ। ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਵੀ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
13 ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੀਹਾਂ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਅਦੁਲਾਮ ਦੀ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਢੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਕਤ ਦਾਊਦ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ, ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਨੇ ਰਫ਼ਾਈਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੰਬੂ ਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।
14 ਇੰਝ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ, ਦਾਊਦ ਇੱਕ ਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ।
15 ਦਾਊਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਗਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਣ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਤਸੁਕ ਸੀ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਿ ਕਾਸ਼ ਕੋਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਵਾਲੇ ਖੂਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਆਕੇ ਦੇਵੇ।”
16 ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰਿਆ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ ਉਸੇ ਫ਼ਾਟਕ ਉੱਪਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਕੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾ ਪੀਤਾ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਵਜੋਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਡੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
17 ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀ ਸੱਕਦਾ, ਇਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਣਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੀਰ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਖੂਨ ਪੀਣ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਹੈ।” ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇੰਝ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਬੜੇ ਸੂਰਮਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ।
18 ਹੋਰ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਸਰੂਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਵੀ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਸੀ। ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਨੇ ਇੱਕੋ ਵੇਲੇ 300 ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਰਛੀ ਚਲਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਬੜਾ ਨਾਮੀ ਬਣਿਆ।
19 ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਗੂ ਬਣਿਆ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੀ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਬਣਿਆ।
20 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਹੋਯਾਦਾ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਨਾਯਾਹ, ਕਬਸਏਲ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੋਤਰਾ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਫ਼ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਟੋਏ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ। ਬਨਾਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਬੜੀ ਬਹਾਦੁਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ।
21 ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਿਸਰੀ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ। ਉਸ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਬਰਛੀ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸੋਟੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਣ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਮਿਸਰੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਰਛੀ ਖੋਹ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਹੀ ਬਰਛੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ।
22 ਯਹੋਯਾਦਾ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਨਾਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਇੰਝ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਬਹਾਦੁਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ। ਬਨਾਯਾਹ ਵੀ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਬੜਾ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਹੋਇਆ।
23 ਬਨਾਯਾਹ ਸਗੋਂ 30 ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਤਿੰਨ ਨਾਇੱਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਦਾ ਸਦੱਸ ਨਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਸਗੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ ਰੱਖਿਅਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਗੂ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ।
24 ਤੀਹ ਨਾਇੱਕ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਜੋ ਯੋਆਬ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੀ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ 30 ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ। 30 ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਸਨ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਲਹਾਨਾਨ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਤੋਂ ਦੋਦੋ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
25 ਸ਼ੰਮਾਹ ਹਰੋਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੀਕਾ ਹਰੋਦੀ ਸੀ।
26 ਹਲਸ ਪਲਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਇੱਕੇਸ਼ ਤਕੋਈ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਈਰਾ ਸੀ।
27 ਅਬੀਅਜ਼ਰ ਅੰਨਥੋਥੀ ਮਬੁੰਨਈ ਹੁਸ਼ਾਥੀ।
28 ਸਲਮੋਨ ਅਹੋਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਰਈ ਨਟੋਫ਼ਾਥੀ।
29 ਬਆਨਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੇਲਬ, ਇੱਕ ਨਟੋਫ਼ਾਥੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੀਬਈ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇੱਤਈ ਜੋ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਗਿਬਆਹ ਤੋਂ ਸੀ।
30 ਬਨਾਯਾਹ ਪਿਰਾਥੋਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਗਆਸ਼ ਦੇ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਿੱਦਈ।
31 ਅਬੀ-ਅਲਬੋਨ ਅਰਬਾਥੀ, ਅਜ਼ਮਾਵਥ ਬਰਹੁਮੀ।
32 ਅਲਯਹਬਾ ਸ਼ਅਲਬੋਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਸੇਨ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ।
33 ਸ਼ੰਮਾਹ ਹਰਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਗਰ ਅਰਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਹੀਆਮ।
34 ਉਸ ਮਆਕਾਥੀ ਤਾਂ ਅਹਸਬਈ ਮਆਕਾਥੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਲੀਫ਼ਲਟ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੀਥੋਫ਼ਲ ਗਿਲੋਨੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਲੀਆਮ।
35 ਹਸਰਈ ਕਰਮਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਅਰਈ ਅਰਬੀ।
36 ਸੋਬਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯਿਗਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਨੀ ਗਾਦੀ।
37 ਸਲਕ ਅੰਮੋਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਹਰਈ ਬਏਰੋਥੀ ਜੋ ਸਰੂਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ।
38 ਈਰਾ ਯਿਬਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਰੇਬ ਯਿਬਥ।
39 ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਹਿੱਤੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੁੱਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ 37 ਸਨ।
1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.
5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.
6 But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:
7 But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.
8 These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
9 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:
10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the Lord wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.
11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.
12 But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory.
13 And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.
14 And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.
15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!
16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.
17 And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.
18 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.
19 Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.
20 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:
21 And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.
22 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.
23 He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.
24 Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

1 মানুষ তার চিন্তা-ভাবনাকে ঠিকমত সাজিয়ে একটি পরিকল্পনা করতে পারে, কিন্তু প্রভুর হাতে জিহ্বাকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করবার ক্ষমতা আছে|
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 লোকরা মনে করে তারা যা করে সেটাই ঠিক, কিন্তু প্রভু তাদের আত্মা পরীক্ষা করেন|
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
3 সব সময় প্রভুর সাহায্য নেবে তাহলেই তুমি সফল হবে|
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4 সমস্ত বিষয়েই প্রভুর পরিকল্পনা আছে এবং সেই পরিকল্পনা অনুসারে মন্দ লোকের বিনাশ হবে|
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
5 য়ে সমস্ত লোক ভাবে তারা অন্য লোকের তুলনায় শ্রেয় প্রভু তাদের ঘৃণা করেন| প্রভু নিশ্চয়ই সেই সমস্ত অহঙ্কারী মানুষকে শাস্তি দেবেন|
A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6 সত্যিকারের ভালোবাসা ও বিশ্বস্ততা তোমাকে খাঁটি করে তুলবে| ঈশ্বরের প্রকৃত প্রেম এবং বিশ্বস্ততার দরুণ অপরাধ মুছে ফেলা যায় কিন্তু প্রভুর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধার মাধ্যমে আমরা মন্দকে এড়িয়ে চলি|
In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 যদি কোন ব্যক্তি ভালো ভাবে জীবনযাপন করে সে প্রভুর কাছে মনোরম হয় এবং তার শত্রুরাও তার সঙ্গে শান্তি রক্ষা করে চলে|
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 ঠকিয়ে প্রচুর লাভ করা অপেক্ষা সঠিক পথে সামান্য লাভ করাও শ্রেয়|
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 এক জন ব্যক্তি কি করতে চায় তা নিয়ে পরিকল্পনা করতে পারে কিন্তু বাস্তবে কি ঘটবে তা নির্ধারণ করবেন প্রভু|
The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 এক জন রাজা যা বলেন সেটাই হয় আইন| তাই তার সিদ্ধান্ত সর্বদা সঠিক হওয়া উচিত্|
Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
11 প্রভু চান সমস্ত মাপকাঠি এবং মাত্র সঠিক হোক এবং ব্যবসায়িক চুক্তিগুলি নিয়মানুযাযী হোক্|
Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
12 যারা মন্দ কাজ করে রাজা তাদের ঘৃণা করেন| ধার্মিকতা তাঁর রাজ্য়কে প্রতিষ্ঠা করবে|
A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
13 রাজা সত্য ভাষণ শুনতে চান| যারা মিথ্যা বলে না রাজা তাদের পছন্দ করেন|
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 এক জন রাজা রেগে গেলে য়ে কোন লোককে হত্যা করতে পারেন| য়ে জ্ঞানী সে রাজাকে খুশী রাখার চেষ্টা করবে|
The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 যদি রাজা খুশী থাকেন তবে সবার জীবনই সুখের হবে| যদি রাজা তোমার প্রতি সন্তুষ্ট হন তাহলে তা হবে বসন্তকালে বৃষ্টি হওয়ার মতো|
All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16 জ্ঞানের মূল্য সোনার চেয়েও বেশী| বিচক্ষণতার মূল্য রূপোর চেয়েও বেশী|
Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 ভালো লোকরা সারা জীবন খারাপ জিনিস থেকে দূরত্ব রেখে চলে| য়ে ব্যক্তি সাবধানী সে তার আত্মাকে রক্ষা করে চলে|
Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18 অহংকার ধ্বংসকে এগিয়ে আনে এবং ঔদ্ধত্য পরাজয় আনে|
A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 উদ্ধত লোকদের সঙ্গে ধনসম্পদ ভাগ করে নেওয়ার চেয়ে বিনযী হওয়া এবং দরিদ্রদের মধ্যে থাকা শ্রেয়|
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
20 য়ে ব্যক্তি অপরের কাছ থেকে শিক্ষাগ্রহণ করে সে লাভবান হবে| য়ে প্রভুর ওপর বিশ্বাস রেখে চলে সে প্রভুর আশীর্বাদ পাবে|
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 জ্ঞানী লোকদের মানুষ চিনে নেবে| য়ে বিচক্ষণ ভাবে কথা বলে তার কথায় অনেক বেশী ফল হয়|
Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22 এক জন জ্ঞানী মানুষ সব সময় চিন্তা করে কথা বলে| এবং সে যা বলে তা শোনার যোগ্য|
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellers they are established.
23 এক জন বিজ্ঞ ব্যক্তি সব সময়ই চিন্তাপূর্ণ কথা বলে এবং সে যা কিছু বলে তা শোনার পক্ষে ভাল ও মূল্যবান|
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
24 দযালু কথাবার্তা সব সময়ই মধুর মত মিষ্টি| দযালু কথাবার্তা গ্রহণযোগ্য ও স্বাস্থ্য়ের পক্ষে ভালো|
The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
25 এমন পথ আছে যা লোকের কাছে সঠিক বলে মনে হলেও তা শুধু মৃত্যুর দিকে নিয়ে যায়|
The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 এক জন শ্রমিকের ক্ষুধাই তাকে কাজ করায যাতে সে খেতে পায়|
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
27 এক জন অপদার্থ দুষ্ট লোক অন্যায় কাজের পরিকল্পনা করে| তার উপদেশ আগুনের মতই ধ্বংসকারী|
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 এক জন সমস্যা সৃষ্টিকারী সব সময় সমস্যার সৃষ্টি করবে| সে গুজব ছড়িয়ে ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধুদের মধ্যে অশান্তির কারণ ঘটাবে|
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 এক জন হিংসাত্মক ব্যক্তি তার বন্ধুদের প্রতারণা করে| সে তাদের বিপথে চালিত করবে|
The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 সে যখনই কোন ধ্বংসকারী পরিকল্পনা করে তখন তার চোখ মিটমিট করে| সে তার প্রতিবেশীকে আঘাত করার জন্য প্রস্তুতি নেওয়ার সময় হাসিমুখে থাকে|
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
31 যারা সত্ জীবনযাপন করে সাদা চুল তাদের মহিমার মুকুট হয়|
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 এক জন বলিষ্ঠ যোদ্ধা হওয়ার থেকে ধৈর্য়্য়শীল হওয়া ভাল| একটি সম্পূর্ণ শহরের দখল নেওয়ার চেয়ে নিজের রাগের ওপর নিয়ন্ত্রণ পাওয়া শ্রেয়|
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 মানুষ পাশার দান চেলে তাদের সিদ্ধান্ত স্থির করে| কিন্তু সিদ্ধান্ত সব সময় ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকেই আসে|
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
