ਤਦ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਾਣ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬੜਾ ਬੇਚੈਨ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਹ ਕੰਬ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਡਿਉੜੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਰਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, “ਹਾਏ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ! ਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ! ਕਾਸ਼ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ! ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ! ਹਾਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ!”

ਤਦ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਾਣ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬੜਾ ਬੇਚੈਨ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਹ ਕੰਬ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਡਿਉੜੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਰਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, “ਹਾਏ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ! ਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ! ਕਾਸ਼ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ! ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ! ਹਾਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ!”
