ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਵੱਲ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕ ਭੇਜੇ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕਿ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ। ਪਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਕੋਲ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ। ਅਬਸ਼ਾਲੋਮ ਨੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਪਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਵੀ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਣੀ ਵਸ਼ਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤਦ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਆਇਆ।

ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੋਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਵਤ ਤੇ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾਵਤ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੋਕਰਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ਪਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਦਾਵਤ ਤੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
