ਜਦੋਂ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਹਲਕਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਬਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਏਲੀ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਜਿਸ ਕੁਰਸੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਧੌਣ ਲੁੜਕ ਗਈ। ਏਲੀ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਟਾ ਸੀ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਏਲੀ 40 ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਹਲਕਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਬਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਏਲੀ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਜਿਸ ਕੁਰਸੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਧੌਣ ਲੁੜਕ ਗਈ। ਏਲੀ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਟਾ ਸੀ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਏਲੀ 40 ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
