ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮੂਸੀਬਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਖੁੰਦਰਾਂ, ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਫ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਾੜਾ ਦੇ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਅਹੁਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਲੁਕਣ ਲੱਗੇ। ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੀ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਥੱਲੇ ਗੜ੍ਹਿਆਂ ’ਚ ਖੂਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਟੋਇਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਕ ਗਏ।

ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ, ਰਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੇ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾੜੇ ਕੋਲ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ। ਉੱਥੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉੱਥੇ ਉਸੇ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਊਦ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਲੁਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।

ਜ਼ੀਫ਼ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਤਦ ਜ਼ੀਫ਼ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਗਿਬਆਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੇ, “ਦਾਊਦ ਸਾਡੇ ਹੀ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਕਦਾ ਫ਼ਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਕਤ ਉਹ ਹੋਰੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੱਕੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨੀਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਉੱਪਰ ਜੋ ਯਸੀਮੋਨ ਦੀ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਅਈ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਮੁੜਕੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੜਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਤੱਕ ਧੂੰਆ ਉੱਠਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਭੱਜਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੁਕ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਪਏ ਅਤੇ ਅਈ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਗਏ। ਅਈ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਭੱਜਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
