ਲੋਕੀਂ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੱਜਕੇ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਲੈ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਿਰ ਕੱਢਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਲੀਆਬ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਜੁਆਨ ਹੈ, ਲੰਬਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਵੇਂ ਨਾ ਸੋਚ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਉਵੇਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਲੋਕੀਂ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਝਾਤ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਲੀਆਬ ਸਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”

ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਗਾਥੀ ਸੀ। ਗੋਲੀਆਥ ਕਰੀਬ 9 ਫੁੱਟ ਲੰਬਾ ਸੀ। ਗੋਲਿਆਥ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਡੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ।
