1 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਦਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਨੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੰਬੂ ਹੇਠ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮੰਦਰ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।”

2 ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਆਏ ਸੋ ਕਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ।”

3 ਪਰ ਉਸ ਰਾਤ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ।

4 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਾਹ! ਅਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੱਸ: ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਦਾਊਦ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਸਥਾਨ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ।

5 ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਲਿਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਉਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਤੰਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਘੁੰਮਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਜੜੀ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਆਗੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਦਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਭਵਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ?’

6 “ਹੁਣ, ਮੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਖ: ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਰਾਂਦਾ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਚਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਥਾਪਿਆ।

7 ਹਰ ਥਾਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਜਾਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ। ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ।

8 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਇੱਥੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਗਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠ ਸੱਕਣ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਤੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਬਦ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਗੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

9 ਉਹ ਮੰਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਾਪਰੀਆਂ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਵਾਂਗਾ। “‘ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਭਵਨ ਬਣਾਵੇਗਾ।

10 ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਮਰ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਇਹ ਨਵਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ।

11 ਤੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਭਵਨ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਦੀ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੀਕ ਅਚੱਲ ਰੱਖਾਂਗਾ।

12 ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾਅ ਲਈ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।

13 ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਰੱਖਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ-ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਅਚੱਲ ਰਹੇਗਾ।’”

14 ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਬਚਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ।

15 ਦਾਊਦ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਤੰਬੂ ਵੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਇਸ ਨਾਚੀਜ਼ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ।

16 ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ, ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਦੱਸਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੰਝ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਹੋਵਾਂ।

17 ਮੈਂ ਕੌਣ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਆਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਆਖ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਦਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ!

18 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਇਹ ਅਚਰਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਕੀਤੀ!

19 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਿਵਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ। ਅਸੀਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮੇ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ!

20 ਕੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕੌਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਤੁਲਨਾਯੋਗ ਹੋਵੇ। ਨਹੀਂ! ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕੌਮ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਅਜਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਜੱਸ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਵੇਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਦੂਜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੂਮੀ ਹਥਿਆ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ!

21 ਤੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।

22 “ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਚਨ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਲਈ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਸਥਿਰ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਵਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੇਂ!

23 ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕਰਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ। ਤਦ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿਣਗੇ, ‘ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈ।’ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਆਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ।

24 “ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਪਰੰਤ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ। ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ, ਮੈਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

25 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।

26 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਣਗੇ। ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਤੀਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੇ।”

1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord remaineth under curtains.

2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house.

11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

16 And David the king came and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Lord God.

18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

19 O Lord, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.

20 O Lord, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Lord, becamest their God.

23 Therefore now, Lord, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

26 And now, Lord, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

27 Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed for ever.

1 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਦਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਨੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੰਬੂ ਹੇਠ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮੰਦਰ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।”

2 ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਆਏ ਸੋ ਕਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ।”

3 ਪਰ ਉਸ ਰਾਤ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ।

4 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਾਹ! ਅਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੱਸ: ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਦਾਊਦ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਸਥਾਨ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ।

5 ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਲਿਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਉਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਤੰਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਘੁੰਮਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਜੜੀ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਆਗੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਦਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਭਵਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ?’

6 “ਹੁਣ, ਮੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਖ: ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਰਾਂਦਾ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਚਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਥਾਪਿਆ।

7 ਹਰ ਥਾਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਜਾਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ। ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ।

8 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਇੱਥੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਗਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠ ਸੱਕਣ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਤੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਬਦ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਗੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

9 ਉਹ ਮੰਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਾਪਰੀਆਂ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਵਾਂਗਾ। “‘ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਭਵਨ ਬਣਾਵੇਗਾ।

10 ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਮਰ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਇਹ ਨਵਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ।

11 ਤੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਭਵਨ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਦੀ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੀਕ ਅਚੱਲ ਰੱਖਾਂਗਾ।

12 ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾਅ ਲਈ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।

13 ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਰੱਖਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ-ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਅਚੱਲ ਰਹੇਗਾ।’”

14 ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਬਚਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ।

15 ਦਾਊਦ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਤੰਬੂ ਵੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਇਸ ਨਾਚੀਜ਼ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ।

16 ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ, ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਦੱਸਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੰਝ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਹੋਵਾਂ।

17 ਮੈਂ ਕੌਣ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਆਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਆਖ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਦਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ!

18 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਇਹ ਅਚਰਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਕੀਤੀ!

19 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਿਵਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ। ਅਸੀਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮੇ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ!

20 ਕੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕੌਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਤੁਲਨਾਯੋਗ ਹੋਵੇ। ਨਹੀਂ! ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕੌਮ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਅਜਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਜੱਸ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਵੇਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਦੂਜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੂਮੀ ਹਥਿਆ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ!

21 ਤੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।

22 “ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਚਨ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਲਈ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਸਥਿਰ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਵਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੇਂ!

23 ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕਰਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ। ਤਦ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿਣਗੇ, ‘ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਮਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈ।’ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਆਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ।

24 “ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਪਰੰਤ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ। ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ, ਮੈਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

25 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।

26 ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਣਗੇ। ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਤੀਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੇ।”

1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord remaineth under curtains.

2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house.

11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

16 And David the king came and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Lord God.

18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

19 O Lord, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.

20 O Lord, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Lord, becamest their God.

23 Therefore now, Lord, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

26 And now, Lord, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
