अय्यूब 18

1 हे मेरे पुत्र, मेरी बुद्धि की बातों पर ध्यान दे, मेरी समझ की ओर कान लगा;
My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

2 जिस से तेरा विवेक सुरक्षित बना रहे, और तू ज्ञान के वचनों को थामे रहे।
That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 क्योंकि पराई स्त्री के ओठों से मधु टपकता है, और उसकी बातें तेल से भी अधिक चिकनी होती हैं;
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 परन्तु इसका परिणाम नागदौना सा कडुवा और दोधारी तलवार सा पैना होता है।
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

5 उसके पांव मृत्यु की ओर बढ़ते हैं; और उसके पग अधोलोक तक पहुंचते हैं॥
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

6 इसलिये उसे जीवन का समथर पथ नहीं मिल पाता; उसके चालचलन में चंचलता है, परन्तु उसे वह आप नहीं जानती॥
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

7 इसलिये अब हे मेरे पुत्रों, मेरी सुनो, और मेरी बातों से मुंह न मोड़ो।
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 ऐसी स्त्री से दूर ही रह, और उसकी डेवढ़ी के पास भी न जाना;
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

9 कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तू अपना यश औरों के हाथ, और अपना जीवन क्रूर जन के वश में कर दे;
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

10 या पराए तेरी कमाई से अपना पेट भरें, और परदेशी मनुष्य तेरे परिश्रम का फल अपने घर में रखें;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11 और तू अपने अन्तिम समय में जब कि तेरा शरीर क्षीण हो जाए तब यह कह कर हाय मारने लगे, कि
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 मैं ने शिक्षा से कैसा बैर किया, और डांटने वाले का कैसा तिरस्कार किया!
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13 मैं ने अपने गुरूओं की बातें न मानी और अपने सिखाने वालों की ओर ध्यान न लगाया।
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14 मैं सभा और मण्डली के बीच में प्राय: सब बुराइयों में जा पड़ा॥
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15 तू अपने ही कुण्ड से पानी, और अपने ही कूंए से सोते का जल पिया करना।
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16 क्या तेरे सोतों का पानी सड़क में, और तेरे जल की धारा चौकों में बह जाने पाए?
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17 यह केवल तेरे ही लिये रहे, और तेरे संग औरों के लिये न हो।
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.

18 तेरा सोता धन्य रहे; और अपनी जवानी की पत्नी के साथ आनन्दित रह,
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 प्रिय हरिणी वा सुन्दर सांभरनी के समान उसके स्तन सर्वदा तुझे संतुष्ट रखे, और उसी का प्रेम नित्य तुझे आकषिर्त करता रहे।
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20 हे मेरे पुत्र, तू अपरिचित स्त्री पर क्यों मोहित हो, और पराई को क्यों छाती से लगाए?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 क्योंकि मनुष्य के मार्ग यहोवा की दृष्टि से छिपे नहीं हैं, और वह उसके सब मार्गों पर ध्यान करता है।
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

22 दुष्ट अपने ही अधर्म के कर्मों से फंसेगा, और अपने ही पाप के बन्धनों में बन्धा रहेगा।
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

23 वह शिक्षा प्राप्त किए बिना मर जाएगा, और अपनी ही मूर्खता के कारण भटकता रहेगा॥
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
