ദാവീദ് ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു: ഞാൻ വിവാഹനിശ്ചയത്തിന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നൂറു അഗ്രചർമ്മംകൊടുത്തു വാങ്ങിയ എന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ മീഖളിനെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതരിക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

അതിന്നു ശൌൽ: രാജാവിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കൾക്കു പ്രതികാരം ആകുവാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നൂറു അഗ്രചർമ്മമല്ലാതെ രാജാവു യാതൊരു സ്ത്രീധനവും ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങൾ ദാവീദിനോടു പറയേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യാൽ ദാവീദിനെ വീഴുമാറാക്കേണമെന്നു ശൌൽ കരുതിയിരുന്നു.

ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്ത് യിസ്രായേലിൽ രാജാവായപ്പോൾ അവന്നു നാല്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവൻ രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം വാണു. യെഹൂദാഗൃഹമോ ദാവീദിനോടു ചേർന്നുനിന്നു.
