ಆದದರಿಂದ ಅನೇಕ ಜನರು ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನೀರು ಬುಗ್ಗೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ದೇಶದ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿಯುವ ಹಳ್ಳ ವನ್ನೂ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಬಿಟ್ಟು--ಅಶ್ಶೂರಿನ ಅರಸುಗಳು ಬಂದು ಬಹಳ ನೀರು ದೊರಕಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವದು ಯಾಕೆ ಅಂದರು.

ಈ ಹಿಜ್ಕೀಯನು ಗೀಹೋನೆಂಬ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಾಲುವೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಬಿಟ್ಟು ಅದನ್ನು ದಾವೀದನ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ದಿಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಕಾಲುವೆಯಾಗಿ ಬರಮಾಡಿದನು. ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಹಿಜ್ಕೀಯನು ತನ್ನ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವೃದ್ಧಿಹೊಂದಿ ದನು.

ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳೂ ಇವುಗಳ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯೂ ಆದ ತರುವಾಯ ಅಶ್ಶೂರಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಸನ್ಹೇರೀಬನು ಹೊರಟು ಬಂದು ಯೆಹೂದದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಕೋಟೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಂಡಿಳಿದು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ತನಗಾಗಿ ಜಯಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡನು.

ಆಗ ಇವನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡು ಒಂದು ಜೋಡು ಎತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದು ಆ ಜೋಡು ಎತ್ತು ಕುಂಟೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅವುಗಳ ಮಾಂಸ ವನ್ನು ಬೇಯಿಸಿ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟನು. ಅವರು ತಿಂದ ತರುವಾಯ ಅವನು ಎದ್ದು ಎಲೀಯನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸೇವೆಮಾಡಿದನು.
