பூர்வத்திலே லாயீஸ் என்னும் பேர் கொண்டிருந்த அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்கு இஸ்ரவேலுக்குப் பிறந்த தங்கள் தகப்பனாகிய தாணுடைய நாமத்தின்படியே தாண் என்று பேரிட்டார்கள்.
