யோவான் 5:12
அதற்கு அவர்கள்: உன் படுக்கையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு நடவென்று உன்னுடனே சொன்ன மனுஷன் யார் என்று அவனிடத்தில் கேட்டார்கள்.

பிதாக்களுடைய இருதயங்களைப் பிள்ளைகளிடத்திற்கும், கீழ்ப்படியாதவர்களை நீதிமான்களுடைய ஞானத்திற்கும் திருப்பி, உத்தமமான மக்களை கர்த்தருக்கு ஆயத்தப்படுத்த, அவன் எலியாவின் ஆவியும் பலமும் உள்ளவனாக கர்த்தருக்கு முன்னே நடப்பான் என்றான்.

கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக யோவான் முன்னோடியாகச் செல்வான். எலியாவைப் போல் யோவானும் வல்லமை வாய்ந்தவனாக இருப்பான். எலியாவின் ஆவியை உடையவனாக அவன் இருப்பான். தந்தையருக்கும் அவர்கள் குழந்தைகளுக்கும் இடையே அமைதி நிலவும்படியாகச் செய்வான். பல மக்கள் தேவனுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிவதில்லை. அவர்களை எல்லாம் மீண்டும் சரியானதென்று மக்கள் எண்ணவேண்டிய பாதைக்கு யோவான் அழைத்து வருவான். கர்த்தரின் வருகைக்கு மக்களை யோவான் தயார் செய்வான்” என்றான்.
