नीतिवचन 19

1 जो निर्धन खराई से चलता है, वह उस मूर्ख से उत्तम है जो टेढ़ी बातें बोलता है।

2 मनुष्य का ज्ञान रहित रहना अच्छा नहीं, और जो उतावली से दौड़ता है वह चूक जाता है।

3 मूढ़ता के कारण मनुष्य का मार्ग टेढ़ा होता है, और वह मन ही मन यहोवा से चिढ़ने लगता है।

4 धनी के तो बहुत मित्र हो जाते हैं, परन्तु कंगाल के मित्र उस से अलग हो जाते हैं।

5 झूठा साक्षी निर्दोष नहीं ठहरता, और जो झूठ बोला करता है, वह न बचेगा।

6 उदार मनुष्य को बहुत से लोग मना लेते हैं, और दानी पुरूष का मित्र सब कोई बनता है।

7 जब निर्धन के सब भाई उस से बैर रखते हैं, तो निश्चय है कि उसके मित्र उस से दूर हो जाएं। वह बातें करते हुए उनका पीछा करता है, परन्तु उन को नहीं पाता।

8 जो बुद्धि प्राप्त करता, वह अपने प्राण का प्रेमी ठहरता है; और जो समझ को धरे रहता है उसका कल्याण होता है।

9 झूठा साक्षी निर्दोष नहीं ठहरता, और जो झूठ बोला करता है, वह नाश होता है।

10 जब सुख से रहना मूर्ख को नहीं फबता, तो हाकिमों पर दास का प्रभुता करना कैसे फबे!

11 जो मनुष्य बुद्धि से चलता है वह विलम्ब से क्रोध करता है, और अपराध को भुलाना उस को सोहता है।

12 राजा का क्रोध सिंह की गरजन के समान है, परन्तु उसकी प्रसन्नता घास पर की ओस के तुल्य होती है।

13 मूर्ख पुत्र पिता के लिये विपत्ति ठहरता है, और पत्नी के झगड़े-रगड़े सदा टपकने के समान है।

14 घर और धन पुरखाओं के भाग में, परन्तु बुद्धिमती पत्नी यहोवा ही से मिलती है।

15 आलस से भारी नींद आ जाती है, और जो प्राणी ढिलाई से काम करता, वह भूखा ही रहता है।

16 जो आज्ञा को मानता, वह अपने प्राण की रक्षा करता है, परन्तु जो अपने चाल चलन के विषय में निश्चिन्त रहता है, वह मर जाता है।

17 जो कंगाल पर अनुग्रह करता है, वह यहोवा को उधार देता है, और वह अपने इस काम का प्रतिफल पाएगा।

18 जब तक आशा है तो अपने पुत्र को ताड़ना कर, जान बूझ कर उसको मार न डाल।

19 जो बड़ा क्रोधी है, उसे दण्ड उठाने दे; क्योंकि यदि तू उसे बचाए, तो बारम्बार बचाना पड़ेगा।

20 सम्मति को सुन ले, और शिक्षा को ग्रहण कर, कि तू अन्तकाल में बुद्धिमान ठहरे।

21 मनुष्य के मन में बहुत सी कल्पनाएं होती हैं, परन्तु जो युक्ति यहोवा करता है, वही स्थिर रहती है।

22 मनुष्य कृपा करने के अनुसार चाहने योग्य होता है, और निर्धन जन झूठ बोलने वाले से उत्तम है।

23 यहोवा का भय मानने से जीवन बढ़ता है; और उसका भय मानने वाला ठिकाना पा कर सुखी रहता है; उस पर विपत्ती नहीं पड़ने की।

24 आलसी अपना हाथ थाली में डालता है, परन्तु अपने मुंह तक कौर नहीं उठाता।

25 ठट्ठा करने वाले को मार, इस से भोला मनुष्य समझदार हो जाएगा; और समझ वाले को डांट, तब वह अधिक ज्ञान पाएगा।

26 जो पुत्र अपने बाप को उजाड़ता, और अपनी मां को भगा देता है, वह अपमान और लज्जा का कारण होगा।

27 हे मेरे पुत्र, यदि तू भटकना चाहता है, तो शिक्षा का सुनना छोड़ दे।

28 अधर्मी साक्षी न्याय को ठट्ठों में उड़ाता है, और दुष्ट लोग अनर्थ काम निगल लेते हैं।

29 ठट्ठा करने वालों के लिये दण्ड ठहराया जाता है, और मूर्खों की पीठ के लिये कोड़े हैं।

1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.

4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.

15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.

22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
