याकूब 2:3
और तुम उस सुन्दर वस्त्र वाले का मुंह देख कर कहो कि तू वहां अच्छी जगह बैठ; और उस कंगाल से कहो, कि तू यहां खड़ा रह, या मेरे पांव की पीढ़ी के पास बैठ।

அவர்கள் மாராவிற்கு வந்தபோது, மாராவின் தண்ணீர் கசப்பாக இருந்ததால் அதைக் குடிக்க அவர்களுக்கு முடியாமல் இருந்தது; அதினால் அந்த இடத்திற்கு மாரா என்று பெயரிடப்பட்டது.

மூன்று நாட்களுக்குப் பின் ஜனங்கள் மாராவிற்கு வந்தனர். மாராவில் தண்ணீர் இருந்தது. ஆனால் குடிக்க முடியாதபடி கசப்பாக இருந்தது. (இதனால் அந்த இடம் மாரா என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது)
