Joshua 6
1 યરીખોનગરના કરવાજાઓ બંધ કરી દેવામાં આવ્યા હતા, કારણ કે તેના લોકો ઇસ્રાએલીઓથી ભયભીત થયેલા હતા. કોઈ અંદર કે બહાર આવ-જા કરનું નહિ.
2 યહોવાએ યહોશુઆને કહ્યું કે, “હું તને યરીખો તેના રાજા અને બહાદુર યોદ્ધાઓને હરાવવા દઈશ.
3 તારે અને તારા સમગ્ર બહાદુર યોદ્ધાઓએ છ દિવસ સુધી પ્રતિદિન એક વખત શહેરની ફરતે પ્રદક્ષિણા કરવી.
4 સાત યાજકોએ હાથમાં ઘેટાંના શિંગડામાંથી બનાવેલ સાત રણશિંગડાં લઈને કોશની આગળ ચાલે. સાતમે દિવસે તારે અને તારા સૈનિકોએ સાત વખત શહરને ફરતે પ્રદક્ષિણા કરવી અને યાજકે રણશિંગડાઓ વગાડવાં.
5 ત્યારબાદ તેઓ લાંબા જોરદાર ધમાંકા સાથે રણશિંગુ ફૂંકશે અને તે સાંભળીને લોકો મોટા અવાજે બૂમ પાડશે, ત્યારે નગરનો દરવાજો તૂટી પડશે; અને તમાંરે બધાએ સીધા નગરમાં ધુસી જવું.”
6 આથી યહોશુઆએ યાજકોને બોલાવ્યાં અને તેમને કહ્યું, “કરારકોશ ઊંચકો, અને 7યાજકોને યહોવાના પવિત્રકોશ આગળ સાત રણશિંગડા લઈને ચાલે.”
7 અને તેણે લોકોને કહ્યું, “આગળ ચાલો અને નગરને ફરતે પ્રદક્ષિણા કરો અને હથિયારબંધ પુરુષો યહોવાનો પવિત્ર કોશની આગળ ચાલશે.”
8 જ્યારે યહોશુઆએ લોકો સાથે વાતો કરવાનું પૂરું કર્યું, ત્યારે સાત યાજકોએ યહોવાની આગળ સાત રણશિંગડાં ધરી રાખ્યાં હતાં તેને ફૂંક્યા. જ્યારે તેમને અનુસરતાં યાજકો દ્વારા લઈ જવાતો યહોવાનાં કરારનો કોશ તેમની પાછળ ચાલતો હતો.
9 યાજકોની આગળ સશસ્ત્ર સૈનિકો, અને પાછળના સંત્રીઓ પવિત્રકોશની પાછળ ચાલતા હતા સાથે રણશિંગડાં ફૂકતાં,
10 પણ યહોશુઆએ લોકોને શાંતિ જાળવવાની અને યુદ્ધનાદની બૂમો ન પાડવા કહ્યું. તેણે કહ્યું, “જ્યારે હું તમને બૂમ પાડવાનું કહીશ ત્યારે બૂમ પાડજો નહિતર કોઈ અવાજ ન કરતાં. જ્યારે હું તમને કહું ત્યારે જ તમે બૂમ પાડજો.”
11 એ પ્રમાંણે તેણે યહોવાનો પવિત્રકોશ લીધો અને પહેલી વાર શહેરની ફરતે પ્રદક્ષિણા કર્યા પછી તેઓ પોતાની છાવણીમાં પાછા ફર્યા અને રાતના ત્યાં આરામ કર્યો.
12 પછી સવારે યહોશુઆ વહેલો ઊઠયો, અને યાજકોએ યહોવાનો પવિત્રકોશ પાછો ઊંચકી લીધો.
13 ઘેટાનાં સાત રણશિંગડાં લઈને સાત યાજકો તેમને વગાડતાં યહોવાનાં પવિત્રકોશ આગળ ચાલ્યા. સશસ્ત્ર માંણસો આગળ ચાલતા હતા અને પાછળ રક્ષકોનું બીજું જૂથ ત્યાં કૂચ કરતું હતું. અને આ સર્વ સમય દરમ્યાન રણશિંગડાં વાગતા હતાં.
14 બીજા દિવસે ફરીથી તેમણે નગરની એક વાર પ્રદક્ષિણા કરી અને પાછા છાવણીમાં આવી ગયા. તેઓએ આ પ્રમાંણે છ દિવસ સુધી કર્યું.
15 અને સાતમે દિવસે તેઓ મળસ્કે ઊઠયા અને એ જ રીતે સાત વખત નગરની પ્રદક્ષિણા કરી.
16 ફક્ત તે દિવસે જ તેમણે નગરની સાત વાર પ્રદક્ષિણા કરી હતી સાતમાં ફેરા વખતે લાંબા સમય સુધી યાજકોએ જોરથી રણશિંગડાં ફૂંકયા, તેથી યહોશુઆએ લોકોને કહ્યું, “જોરથી બૂમો પાડો યહોવાએ આપણને આ નગર આપી દીધું છે!
17 એ નગર તથા તેમાંનું બધુંજ યહોવાનું છે, કેવળ રાહાબ વારાંગના અને તેના ઘરના માંણસો સિવાયની પ્રત્યેક વ્યક્તિને માંરી નાખજો, કારણ કે તેણે આપણે મોકલેલા જાસૂસોને રક્ષણ આપ્યું હતું.
18 તમાંરે બધાંએ સતર્ક બનવું તેમાંની કોઈ શાપિત વસ્તુ ન લેવી જેનો સંપૂર્ણ નાશ કરવાનો છે. તમે એમાંથી કઈ લો અને રાખો તો ઇસ્રાએલી છાવણી પર વિપત્તિ આવશે અને તમે વિનાશ નોતરશો.
19 સોના અને ચાંદીની જેમ જ લોખંડનાં બધા પાત્ર યહોવાને માંટે અલગ રાખેલા છે અને તમાંરે તે બધું યહોવાના ભંડારમાં આપવાનું છે.”
20 તેથી લોકોએ પોકાર કર્યો અને યાજકોએ રણશિંગાં ફૂંકયાં, જ્યારે લોકોએ રણશિંગાંનો અવાજ સાંભળ્યો તેઓએ મોટી બૂમ પાડી અને તે સમયે નગરની દીવાલ પડી ગઈ, અને ત્યાં જે બધા લોકો ઉભા હતા અંદર ધસી ગયા અને તેને કબજે કરી લીધું.
21 તેમણે નગરનાં સર્વ સજીવો આબાલવૃદ્ધ સ્ત્રી-પુરુષોને તરવારથી વિનાશ કર્યો ઢોર, ઘેટાં, તથા ગધેડાંને પણ જીવતાં રહેવા દીધાં નહિ.
22 ત્યાર બાદ જે બે માંણસોએ દેશની જાસૂસી કરી હતી તેઓને યહોશુઆએ કહ્યું કે, “તમે બન્ને વારાંગનાના ઘરમાં જઈને તેને અને તેના પરિવારનાં માંણસોને તમે વચન આપ્યા મુજબ બહાર લઈ આવો.”
23 તેથી તેઓ ત્યાં ગયા અને રાહાબને, તેના પિતાને, માંતાને, ભાઈઓને અને તેના પરિવારના સર્વ લોકોને બહાર કાઢયા, અને ઇસ્રાએલી છાવણીની બહાર સુરક્ષિત જગ્યામાં રાખ્યા.
24 પછી તેઓએ નગર અને તેમાંનું સઘળું બાળી મૂક્યું. ફકત સોના-રૂપાની અને પિત્તળની અને લોઢાની વસ્તુઓ યહોવાના ભંડારમાં મૂકવામાં આવી હતી.
25 આમ યહોશુઆએ રાહાબ વારાંગનાને અને તેનાં બધાં કુટુંબીજનોને અને પરિવારને જીવતદાન આપ્યું. કારણ, તેણે યહોશુઆએ ચરીખોમાં જાસૂસી કરવા મોકલેલા માંણસોને સંતાડી રાખીને રક્ષણ કર્યુ હતું. તેના વંશજો આજસુધી ઇસ્રાએલમાં વસતા આવ્યા છે.
26 તે સમયે યહોશુઆએ તેઓને એવા શપથ ખવડાવ્યા કે: “જે કોઈ ઊઠીને આ યરીખો શહેરને ફરી બાંધવા માંટે પ્રયત્ન કરશે તે યહોવાની આગળ શાપિત થાઓ. જે કોઈ શહેરનો પાયો નાખશે તે એનો વડો પુત્ર ગુમાંવશે. અને જે કોઈ એના દરવાજા ઊભા કરશે તેનો સૌથી નાનો પુત્ર ગુમાંવશે.”
27 એ પ્રમાંણે યહોવા યહોશુઆની સાથે હતા, અને તેના નામની કીર્તિ આખા દેશમાં પ્રસરી ગઈ.
1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2 And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.
7 And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the Lord.
8 And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the Lord, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.
9 And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
10 And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
11 So the ark of the Lord compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
12 And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.
13 And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the Lord, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
14 And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.
17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall come into the treasury of the Lord.
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord.
25 And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
26 And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
27 So the Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of the Lord by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the Lord hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
