પિલાતે યહૂદિઓને કહ્યું, “ઓ યહૂદિઓ, તમે પોતે એને લઈ જાઓ, અને તમારા નિયમશાસ્ત્ર પ્રમાણે એનો ન્યાય કરો.”યહૂદિઓએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “પણ અમારું નિયમશાસ્ત્ર અમને કોઈ વ્યક્તિને તેને મૃત્યુદંડની શિક્ષા કરવાની પરવાનગી આપતું નથી.”
