પ્રેરિતોનાં ક્રત્યો 25
1 ફેસ્તુસ હાકેમ બન્યો, અને ત્રણ દિવસ પછી તે કૈસરિયાથી યરૂશાલેમ ગયો.
2 મુખ્ય યાજક અને મહત્વના યહૂદિ આગેવાનોએ ફેસ્તુસની આગળ પાઉલની વિરૂદ્ધ આક્ષેપો મૂક્યા.
3 તેઓએ ફેસ્તુસને તેઓના માટે કંઈક કરવા કહ્યું. તે યહૂદિઓ ઇચ્છતા હતા કે ફેસ્તુસ પાઉલને પાછો યરૂશાલેમ મોકલે. તેઓ પાસે પાઉલને રસ્તામાં જ મારી નાખવાની યોજના હતી.
4 પરંતુ ફેસ્તુસે જવાબ આપ્યો, “ના! પાઉલને કૈસરિયામાં રાખવામાં આવશે. હું જલદીથી મારી જાતે કૈસરિયા જઈશ.
5 તમારા કેટલાએક આગેવાનોએ મારી સાથે જવું જોઈએ. જો તેણે ખરેખર કંઈક ખોટું કર્યું હોય તો તેઓ ત્યાં કૈસરિયામાં તે માણસ વિરૂદ્ધ તહોમત મૂકી શકે છે.’
6 ફેસ્તુસ યરૂશાલેમમાં આઠ કે દસ દિવસો રહ્યો. પછી તે કૈસરિયા પાછો ગયો. બીજે દિવસે ફેસ્તુસે સૈનિકોને તેની આગળ પાઉલને લાવવા માટે કહ્યું. ફેસ્તુસ ન્યાયાસન પર બેઠો હતો.
7 પાઉલ ઓરડામાં આવ્યો હતો. જે યહૂદિઓ યરૂશાલેમથી આવ્યાં હતા તેઓ તેની આજુબાજુ ઊભા, ઘણા ગંભીર આક્ષેપો તેની વિરૂદ્ધ મૂક્યા. પણ તેઓ આમાંનું કશું પણ સાબિત કરી શક્યા નહિ.
8 પાઉલે પોતાના બચાવ માટે જે કહ્યું તે આ છે. “મેં યહૂદિઓના નિયમ વિરૂદ્ધ, મંદિર વિરૂદ્ધ કે કૈસર વિરૂદ્ધ કશું ખોટું કર્યુ નથી.”
9 પરંતુ ફેસ્તસની ઈચ્છા યહૂદિઓને ખુશ કરવાની હતી. તેથી તેણે પાઉલને પૂછયું, “તારી ઈચ્છા યરૂશાલેમ જવાની છે? તું ઇચ્છે છેકે હું ત્યાં આ તહોમતો વિષે તારો ન્યાય કરું?”
10 પાઉલે કહ્યું, “હમણાં હું કૈસરના ન્યાયાસન આગળ ઊભો છું. જ્યાં મારો ન્યાય થવો જોઈએ તે જ જગ્યા આ છે. મેં યહૂદિઓનું કશું ખોટું કર્યુ નથી. તમે જાણો છો આ સાચું છે.
11 જો કાયદો કહેતો હોય કે મારે મરી જવું જોઈએ, તો હું મરવા માટે સંમત છું. હું મૃત્યુમાંથી બચવા માટે કહેતો નથી. પણ જો આ તહોમતો સાચા ના હોય તો પછી મને કોઈ વ્યક્તિ આ યહૂદિઓને હવાલે કરી શકે નહિ, ના! હું મારો કેસ કૈસર સાંભળે એમ ઈચ્છું છું!”
12 ફેસ્તુસે આ બાબત વિષે તેના સલાહકારો સાથે વાત કરી. પછી તેણે કહ્યું, “તેથી તુ કૈસર પાસે જા અને તેને મળ!”
13 થોડા દિવસો પછી અગ્રીપા રાજા અને બરનિકા ફેસ્તુસની મુલાકાતે કૈસરિયા આવ્યા.
14 તેઓ ત્યાં ઘણા દિવસો રહ્યા. ફેસ્તુસે રાજાને પાઉલ સંબંધી કહ્યું, “ત્યાં એક માણસ છે જેને ફેલિકસે કારાવાસમાં પૂર્યો છે.
15 જ્યારે હું યરૂશાલેમ ગયો ત્યારે મુખ્ય યાજકોએ તથા યહૂદિઓના વડીલોએ ત્યાં તેની વિરૂદ્ધ તહોમતો મૂક્યા. આ યહૂદિઓ મને તેના મૃત્યુનો હૂકમ કરવા ઇચ્છતા હતા.
16 પરંતુ મેં જવાબ આપ્યો. “જ્યારે કોઈ માણસ પર કંઈક ખોટું કરવાના તહોમતો મૂકવામાં આવે તો રોમનો બીજા લોકોને તે માણસનો ન્યાય કરવા માટે આપતા ન હતા. પ્રથમ તે માણસને જે માણસોએ તેની સામે ફરિયાદ કરી હોય તેનો સામનો કરવાની તક આપવી જોઈએ. અને તેને તેઓએ તેની વિરૂદ્ધ કરેલી ફરિયાદોનો બચાવ તેની જાતે કરવાની પરવાનગી પણ આપવી જોઈએ.
17 “તેથી આ યહૂદિઓ અહીં કૈસરિયા ન્યાય માટે આવ્યા. અને મેં સમય ગુમાવ્યો નહિ. બીજે દિવસે હું ન્યાયાસનની બેઠક પર બેઠો અને હુકમ કર્યો કે તે માણસને અંદર લાવવામાં આવે .
18 યહૂદિઓ ઊભા થયા અને તેની સામે તહોમત મૂક્યું. પણ યહૂદિઓએ કોઇ ખરાબ ગુનાઓ વિષે ફરિયાદ કરી નહિ. હું ધારતો હતો કે તેઓ કરશે.
19 તેઓએ જે વાતો કહી, તે તેઓના પોતાના ધર્મ અને ઈસુ નામના માણસ વિષે હતી. ઈસુ મૃત્યુ પામ્યો છે છતાં પાઉલે દાવો કર્યો કે તે હજુય જીવે છે.
20 હું આ બાબત વિષે વધું જાણતો ન હતો. તેથી મેં પ્રશ્રો પૂછયા નહિ. પણ મેં પાઉલને પૂછયું, “તારી ઈચ્છા યરૂશાલેમમાં જઈને આ બાબતમાં ન્યાય કરવાની છે?’
21 પણ પાઉલે કૈસરિયામાં જ રાખવા માટે કહ્યું. તે પાદશાહ પાસેથી નિર્ણય ઇચ્છે છે. તેથી મેં હુકમ કર્યો કે જ્યાં સુધી હું તેને રોમમાં કૈસર પાસે ન મોકલી શકું ત્યાં સુધી તેને કેદમાં રાખવો.”
22 અગ્રીપાએ ફેસ્તુસને કહ્યું, “આ માણસને સાંભળવો મને પણ ગમશે.”ફેસ્તુસે કહ્યું, “આવતીકાલે તું એને સાંભળી શકીશ!”
23 બીજે દિવસે અગ્રીપા અને બરનિકા દેખાયા. તેઓ ઘણા મહત્વના લોકો હોય તે રીતે વસ્ત્રો પરિધાન કરીને દબદબાથી ર્વત્યા. અગ્રીપા અને બરનિકા લશ્કરના અધિકારીઓ અને કૈસરિયાના મહત્વના લોકો ન્યાયાલય ખંડમાં ગયા. ફેસ્તુસે પાઉલને અંદર લાવવા સૈનિકોને હુકમ કર્યો.
24 ફેસ્તુસે કહ્યું, “રાજા અગ્રીપા અને તમે બધા લોકો અહી અમારી સાથે ભેગા થયા છો, તમે આ માણસને જુઓ છો. યરૂશાલેમના તથા અહીંના આ બધા યહૂદિ લોકોએ મને તેના વિષે ફરિયાદ કરી છે. જ્યારે તેઓએ તેના વિષે ફરિયાદ કરી ત્યારે તેઓએ પોકાર કર્યો કે, તેને મારી નાખવો જોઈએ.
25 મેં જ્યારે તેનો ન્યાય કર્યો. મને કંઈ ખોટું જણાયું નહી, મને તેને મોતનો હુકમ કરવા કોઈ કારણ જણાયું નહિ. પણ તેણે તેની જાણ તેની જાતે કરવા કહ્યું કે તેનો ન્યાય કૈસર વડે થવો જોઈએ. તેથી મેં તેને રોમ મોકલવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો.
26 પણ મારી પાસે તેની વિરૂદ્ધ કૈસરને લખવા માટે કોઇ ચોક્કસ બાબત ન હતી તેથી હું તમારા બધાની આગળ ખાસ કરીને રાજા અગ્રીપા પાસે લાવ્યો છું. કારણ કે તેણે કંઈ ખોટું કર્યુ નથી. હું આશા રાખું છું કે તું તેને પ્રશ્ર કર અને મને કૈસરને કંઈક લખવા દે.
27 હું વિચારું છું કે બંદીવાનને કૈસર પાસે તેની વિરૂદ્ધ કોઇ જાતના આરોપો દર્શાવ્યા વિના મોકલવો તે મૂર્ખતા છે. મને એ અયોગ્ય લાગે છે.”
1 Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.
2 Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
3 And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.
4 But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.
5 Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
6 And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
7 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.
9 But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
10 Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
11 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go.
13 And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus.
14 And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
15 About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.
16 To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
17 Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
18 Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
19 But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
20 And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
21 But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.
22 Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
23 And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus’ commandment Paul was brought forth.
24 And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
25 But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
26 Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
27 For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.
Acts 18 in Tamil and English
1 પાછળથી પાઉલે આથેન્સ છોડયું અને કરિંથના શહેરમાં ગયો.
After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 ત્યાં કરિંથમાં પાઉલ અકુલાસ નામના યહૂદિને મળ્યો. અકુલાસ પોન્તસ દેશમાં જનમ્યો હતો. પરંતુ અકુલાસ અને તેની પત્ની પ્રિસ્કિલા તાજેતરમાં ઈટાલીથી કરિંથમાં આવ્યા હતા. તેઓએ ઇટાલી છોડયું કારણ કે કલોદિયસેફરમાન કાઢ્યું હતું કે બધા યહૂદિઓએ રોમ છોડવું. પાઉલ અકુલાસ અને પ્રિસ્કિલાની મુલાકાતે ગયો.
And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
3 પાઉલની જેમ તેઓ તંબૂ બનાવવાનું કામ કરતા હતા. પાઉલ તેઓની સાથે રહ્યો અને તેઓની સાથે કામ કર્યુ.
And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
4 પ્રત્યેક વિશ્રામવારે પાઉલ યહૂદિઓ અને ગ્રીકો સાથે સભાસ્થાનમાં ચર્ચા કરતો હતો. પાઉલ આ લોકોને ઈસુમાં વિશ્વાસ રાખવા માટે સમજાવવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતો હતો.
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5 સિલાસ અને તિમોથી મકદોનિયાથી કરિંથમાં પાઉલ પાસે આવ્યા. આ પછી પાઉલે તેનો બોધો સમય લોકોને સુવાર્તા કહેવામાં અર્પણ કર્યો. તેણે યહૂદિઓને બતાવ્યું કે ઈસુ એ જ ખ્રિસ્ત છે.
And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
6 પરંતુ યહૂદિઓએ પાઉલનો બોધ સ્વીકાર્યો નહિ. યહૂદિઓએ કેટલીક ઘણી ખરાબ વસ્તુઓ કહી. તેથી પાઉલે તેના વસ્ત્રો પરની ધૂળ ખંખેરી નાખી. તેણે યહૂદિઓને કહ્યું, ‘જો તમારું તારણ ન થાય તો તે તમારો પોતાનો દોષ હશે. મારાથી થાય તેટલું બધું મેં કર્યુ છે. આ પછી, હું ફક્ત બિનયહૂદિ લોકો પાસે જઈશ!ІІ
And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
7 પાઉલે સભાસ્થાન છોડયું અને તિતસ યુસ્તસના ઘરે ગયો. આ માણસ સાચા દેવનું ભજન કરતો. તેનું ઘર સભાસ્થાનની બાજુમાં જ હતું.
And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
8 ક્રિસ્પુસ તે સભાસ્થાનનો આગેવાન હતો. ક્રિસ્પુસ અને તેના ઘરમાં રહેતા બધા જ લોકોએ પ્રભુમાં વિશ્વાસ કર્યો. બીજા ઘણા લોકોએ કરિંથમાં પાઉલનો સંદેશ સાંભળ્યો. તેઓએ પણ વિશ્વાસ કર્યો અને બાપ્તિસ્મા પામ્યા.
And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
9 રાત્રિ દરમ્યાન પાઉલે દર્શન જોયું. પ્રભુએ તેને કહ્યું, ‘ગભરાઈશ નહિ! લોકો સાથે ચર્ચા કરવાનું ચાલુ રાખ, અને બંધ કરીશ નહિ!
Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 હું તારી સાથે છું. તને ઇજા કરવા કોઇ શક્તિમાન થશે નહિ. મારા લોકોમાંના ઘણા આ શહેરમાં છે.ІІ
For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
11 પાઉલ ત્યાં લોકોને દેવનાં વચનોનો બોધ કરવા માટે દોઢ વરસ સુધી રહ્યો.
And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12 ગાલિયો અખાયા દેશનો અધિકારી બન્યો. તે સમયે, યહૂદિઓ પાઉલની વિરૂદ્ધમાં ભેગા થઈને આવ્યા. તેઓ પાઉલને ન્યાયાસન આગળ લઈ ગયા.
And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
13 યહૂદિઓએ ગાલિયોને કહ્યુ, Їયહૂદિઓના આપણા નિયમશાસ્ત્રની તદ્દન વિરૂદ્ધ લોકોને દેવની ભક્તિ કરવાનું શીખવે છે!”
Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
14 પાઉલ કંઈક કહેવા તૈયાર હતો, પરંતુ ગાલિયોએ યહૂદિઓને કહ્યું. ગાલિયોએ કહ્યું, ‘જો તમે ખરાબ ગુના કે કંઈક ખોટા માટે ફરિયાદ કરવાના હશો તો હું તમને યહૂદિઓને ધ્યાનથી સાંભળીશ.
And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
15 પણ તમે યહૂદિઓ જે વાતો કહો છો. તેમાં શબ્દો, નામો, તમારા પોતાના યહૂદિના નિયમશાસ્ત્ર વિષેની દલીલો માટેના ફક્ત પ્રશ્રો હોય છે. તેથી તમારે તમારી જાતે આવી બાબતોમાં નિકાલ કરવો જોઈએ. હું આ બાબતોમાં ન્યાયાધીશ થવા ઈચ્છતો નથી.”
But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
16 ગાલિયોએ તેઓને ન્યાયાસન આગળથી કાઢી મૂક્યા.
And he drave them from the judgment seat.
17 પછી તેઓએ બધાએ (સભાસ્થાનના આગેવાન) સોસ્થનેસને પકડ્યો. તેઓએ ન્યાયાલયની આગળ સોસ્થનેસને માર્યો. પરંતુ ગાલીયોએ આની કોઇ પરવા કરી નહિ.
Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
18 પાઉલ ભાઈઓ સાથે ઘણા દિવસો સુધી રહ્યો. પછી તેણે તેમની રજા લઈને વિદાય લીધી અને સિરિયા જવા વહાણ હંકાર્યું. પ્રિસ્કિલા અને અકુલાસ પણ તેમની સાથે હતા. કિંખ્રિયામાં પાઉલે તેનું માથું મુંડાવ્યું હતું. આ બતાવે છે કે તેણે દેવની પાસે માનતા લીધી છે.
And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
19 પછી તેઓ એફેસસ શહેરમાં ગયા. જ્યાં પાઉલે પ્રિસ્કિલા અને અકુલાસને છોડ્યા હતા તે આ સ્થળ છે. જ્યારે પાઉલ એફેસસમાં હતો; તે સભાસ્થાનમાં ગયો અને યહૂદિઓ સાથે વાતો કરી.
And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20 યહૂદિઓએ પાઉલને વધારે લાંબો સમય રહેવા માટે કહ્યું, પણ તેણે અસ્વીકાર કર્યો.
When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
21 પાઉલે તેઓની વિદાય લીધી અને કહ્યું, “જો દેવની ઈચ્છા મને મોકલવાની હશે તો હું તમારી પાસે ફરીથી પાછો આવીશ.” અને તેથી પાઉલે એફેસસથી દૂર વહાણ હંકાર્યુ.
But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22 પાઉલ કૈસરિયાના શહેરમાં ગયો. પછી તે યરૂશાલેમમાં મંડળીને અભિનંદન આપવા ગયો. તે પછી પાઉલ અંત્યોખ શહેરમાં ગયો.
And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
23 પાઉલ અંત્યોખમાં થોડો સમય રહ્યો. પછી તેણે અંત્યોખ છોડ્યું અને ગલાતિયા તથા ફુગિયાના દેશોમાં થઈને ગયો. આ દેશોમાં પાઉલે ગામડે ગામડે મુસાફરી કરી. તેણે ઈસુના બધા શિષ્યોને વધારે મજબૂત બનાવ્યા.
And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24 એક અપોલોસ નામનો યહૂદિ એફેસસમાં આવ્યો. અપોલોસ આલેકસાંદ્રિયા શહેરમાં જનમ્યો હતો. તે એક શિક્ષિત માણસ હતો. તે ધર્મલેખો ઘણી સારી રીતે જાણતો.
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 અપોલોસને પ્રભુ વિષે શીખવવામાં આવ્યું હતું. અપોલોસ જ્યારે લોકોને પ્રભુ વિષે કહેતો ત્યારે તે હંમેશા ઉત્સાહી હતો. અપોલોસને પ્રભુ વિષે જે શીખવવામાં આવ્યું હતું તે સાચું હતું પરંતુ ફક્ત બાપ્તિસ્મા જે અપોલોસ જાણતો તે યોહાને શીખવેલું બાપ્તિસ્મા હતું.
This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
26 અપોલોસે સભાસ્થાનમાં બહુ બહાદુરીપૂર્વક બોલવાનું શરું કર્યુ. પ્રિસ્કિલાએ તથા અકુલાસે તેનો બોધ સાંભળ્યો. તેઓ તેને તેઓના ઘેર લઈ ગયા અને દેવનો માર્ગ વધારે સારી રીતે તેમને સમજવામાં મદદ કરી.
And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
27 અપોલોસ અખાયાના પ્રદેશમાં જવા ઈચ્છતો હતો. તેથી એફેસસના ભાઈઓએ તેમને મદદ કરી. તેઓએ અખાયામાં ઈસુના શિષ્યોને પત્ર લખ્યો. તેઓએ પત્રમાં આ શિષ્યોને અપોલોસને સ્વીકારવા કહ્યું. અખાયાના આ શિષ્યો દેવની કૃપાથી ઈસુમાં વિશ્વાસ કરતા હતા. જ્યારે અપોલોસ ત્યાં ગયો, તેણે તેઓને ઘણી મદદ કરી.
And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
