યહોવાએ આશ્દોદના લોકોને સખત સજા કરીને તેમને ભયભીત બનાવી દીધા; તેમણે આશ્દોદ અને તેની આસપાસના પ્રદેશના લોકોમાં ગૂંમડાંનો રોગચાળો ફેલાવી દીધો.

ઈસ્રાએલી લોકો પોતાના શત્રુઓ સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા જતા ત્યારે યહોવાનો હાથ તેઓની વિરુદ્ધ રહેતો, યહોવાએ તે લોકોને ચેતવણી આપી હતી અને પ્રતિજ્ઞા લીધી હતી કે પોતે આ પ્રમાંણે કરશે. પરિણામે ઈસ્રાએલીઓ ભારે આફતમાં આવી પડયા.
