Daniel 5
1 રાજા બેલ્શાસ્સારે પોતાના એક હજાર ઉમરાવોને મોટી ઉજાણી આપી અને એ હજાર ઉમરાવોની સમક્ષ તે છૂટથી દ્રાક્ષારસ પીવા લાગ્યો.
2 દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતાં પીતાં બેલ્શાસ્સારને યાદ આવ્યું કે, ઘણા સમય પહેલાં તેના પિતા નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર યરૂશાલેમના મંદિરમાંથી સોના ચાંદીના પાત્રો લૂંટી લાવ્યા હતા. તેણે એ પાત્રોને ઉજાણીમાં લઇ આવવાની આજ્ઞા કરી, જેથી તે અને તેના ઉમરાવો તથા તેની પત્નીઓ અને ઉપપત્નિઓ તે પાત્રોથી દ્રાક્ષારસ પી શકે.
3 યરૂશાલેમના મંદિરમાંથી લાવવામાં આવેલાં સોનાના પાત્રો હાજર કરવામાં આવ્યાં અને રાજાએ તથા તેના ઉમરાવોએ તે પાત્રોમાં દ્રાક્ષારસ પીધો.
4 દ્રાક્ષારસ પીને તેઓ સોનાચાંદી, કાંસાની અને લોઢાની તથા લાકડામાંથી બનાવેલ મૂર્તિઓની પૂજા કરવા લાગ્યા.
5 તે સમયે અચાનક કોઇ માણસના હાથની આંગળીઓ દીવીની સામે આવેલી રાજમહેલની ભીંત ઉપર કાંઇ લખતી દેખાઇ, અને રાજા હાથને લખતો જોઇ રહ્યો.
6 તે ભયથી તેનો ચહેરો ફિક્કો પડી ગયો અને તેનાં ગાત્રો શિથિલ થઇ ગયાં, અને તેના ઢીંચણ એકબીજા સાથે અથડાવા લાગ્યાં.
7 રાજાએ મોટેથી બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું, “મંત્રવિદો, અને જાદુગરોને બોલાવી લાવો.” રાજાએ બાબિલના બુદ્ધિમાન પુરુષોને કહ્યું, “જે કોઇ આ લખાણ વાંચી શકશે અને એનો અર્થ મને કહી શકશે, તેને હું જાંબુડિયા રંગનો ઝભ્ભો અને ગળામાં સોનાનો હાર પહેરાવીશ અને તે રાજ્યમાં ત્રીજું સ્થાન પામશે.”
8 પછી રાજાના સર્વ બુદ્ધિમાનો ત્યાં હાજર થઇ ગયાં, પણ તેઓમાંનો એક પણ બુદ્ધિમાન પુરુષ તે લખાણ વાંચી શક્યો નહિ. તથા સમજી શક્યો નહિ તેથી રાજાને તેઓ કશું સમજાવી ન શક્યા.
9 તેથી રાજા બેલ્શાસ્સાર ખૂબ ભયભીત થઇ ગયો અને તેનો ચહેરો ફિક્કો પડી ગયો. તેના અધિકારીઓ પણ બહુ ગભરાઇ ગયા.
10 જ્યારે રાજમાતાએ જે થઇ રહ્યું હતું તે સાંભળ્યું ત્યારે તે તરત જ ઉજાણીના ખંડમાં દોડી આવી; તેણે બેલ્શાસ્સારને કહ્યું, “હે રાજા તમે ઘણું જીવો! તમે ગભરાઇ જશો નહિ. તમારે ફિક્કા પડી જવાની જરૂર નથી.
11 તમારા રાજ્યમાં એક માણસ એવો છે, જેનામાં પવિત્ર દેવનો આત્મા વસે છે. તમારા પિતાના સમયમાં એ માણસ દિવ્યજ્ઞાન, બુદ્ધિમતા, અને હોશિયારી માટે જાણીતો હતો અને તમારા પિતા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે એને જાદુગરો, મંત્રવિદોનો અધ્યક્ષ બનાવ્યો હતો.
12 તે માણસનું નામ દાનિયેલ છે પરંતુ રાજાએ તેનું નામ બેલ્ટશાસ્સાર પાડ્યું હતું. તેનું મન દૈવી જ્ઞાન અને સમજશકિતથી ભરેલું છે. તે સ્વપ્નનું અર્થઘટન કરી શકે છે. સમસ્યાઓને ઉકેલી શકે છે. અને કઠીન કોયડાઓને હલ કરી શકે છે. તે આ લખાણનો અર્થ શો છે તે તમને સમજાવશે.”
13 તેથી તાત્કાલીક દાનિયેલને રાજા પાસે લાવવામાં આવ્યો. રાજાએ તેને પૂછયું, “મારા પિતા નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર રાજા ઇસ્રાએલમાંથી યહૂદી બંદીવાનોને લાવ્યા હતાં, તેઓમાંનો દાનિયેલ તે તું છે?
14 મેં એમ સાંભળ્યું છે કે, તારામાં પવિત્ર દૈવી આત્મા છે, અને તું દિવ્યજ્ઞાન, બુદ્ધિમતા, અને હોશિયારી ધરાવે છે.
15 દીવાલ પરનું લખાણ વાંચી તેનો અર્થ મને સમજાવવા માટે મારી પાસે બુદ્ધિમાન માણસોને અને મંત્રવિદોને લાવવામાં આવ્યાં હતાં પરંતુ તેઓ તેનો અર્થ સમજાવી શક્યા ન હતા.
16 પરંતુ મેં તારા વિષે સાંભળ્યું છે કે, તું દરેક પ્રકારના રહસ્યોને ઉકેલે છે, જો તું મને તે શબ્દનો અર્થ કહેશે તો, હું તને જાંબલી રંગનો ઝભ્ભો પહેરાવીશ અને તારા ગળામાં સોનાની સાંકળી પહેરાવીશ અને રાજ્યમાં તને ત્રીજો અધિકારી બનાવીશ.”
17 ત્યારે દાનિયલે રાજાને જવાબ આપ્યો, “આપનું ઇનામ ભલે આપની પાસે જ રહેતું અને આપનાં ઇનામો આપ ભલે બીજા કોઇને આપો. તેમ છતાં હું આપને આ લખાણ વાંચી સંભળાવીશ અને એનો અર્થ આપને કહી બતાવીશ.
18 “હે રાજા, પરાત્પર દેવે તમારા પિતા નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર રાજાને રાજ્યો, સત્તા, મહિમા, માન અને ગૌરવ આપ્યા હતાં.
19 દેવે તેને એવો મોટો બનાવ્યો હતો કે, બધી પ્રજાઓ અને બધી ભાષાઓ બોલનારા લોકો તેનાથી ભય પામી થરથર ધ્રુજતા હતા. તે ઇચ્છે તેને મારી નાખતો, અને ઇચ્છે તેને જીવાડતો હતો, ઇચ્છે તેને ઊંચે ચઢાવતો હતો, અને ઇચ્છે તેને પાડતો હતો.
20 “પણ જ્યારે અભિમાનને લીધે તેમનાં હૃદય અને મન કઠણ થયાં, ત્યારે તેમને રાજ્યાસન પરથી દૂર કરવામાં આવ્યાં અને તેમનો મહિમા લઇ લેવામાં આવ્યો.
21 “તેને માણસોમાંથી હાંકી કાઢવામાં આવ્યો, તેનું મન પશુ સમાન થઇ ગયું. તે બળદની જેમ ઘાસ ખાતો હતો, તેને જંગલી ગધેડા ભેગું રહેવું પડ્યું અને ખુલ્લા આકાશ નીચે સૂવાને લીધે ઝાકળથી પલળવું પડ્યું. આખરે તેને સમજાયું કે, પરાત્પર દેવ માનવોના રાજ્યમાં સવોર્પરી છે, અને ઇચ્છે તેને રાજ્ય સોંપે છે.
22 “હે બેલ્શાસ્સાર તમે તેમના જ પુત્ર છો અને તમે આ બધું જાણ્યાં છતાં, આપે નમ્રતા ધારણ કરી નથી.
23 ઊલ્ટું તમે સ્વર્ગાધિપતિ યહોવાની સામે માથું ઊંચક્યું છે. તેમના મંદિરનાઁ આ પાત્રો અહીં લાવીને તમે, તમારા અધિકારીઓને, આપની પત્નીઓ અને ઉપપત્નીઓને તે પાત્રોમાં દ્રાક્ષારસ પીવડાવ્યો છે. વળી તમે સોના, ચાંદી, લોખંડ, લાકડા અને પથ્થરની મૂર્તિઓની પૂજા કરી છે, જે કંઇપણ જોઇ કે, સાંભળી શકતી નથી. જેણે તમારામાં જીવનનો શ્વાસ મૂક્યો છે અને જેના હાથમાં તમારું ભવિષ્ય છે, તે દેવને તમે માન આપ્યું નથી.
24 તેથી તેણે આ હાથને મોકલીને આ લખાણ લખાવ્યું છે.
25 તે લખાણ આ છે: મેને, મેને, તકેલ, ઉફાસીર્ન.
26 એનો અર્થ છે: “મેને; એનો અર્થ એ છે કે, દેવે આપના રાજ્યના દિવસો ગણ્યા છે અને તેનો અંત આણ્યો છે.
27 તકેલ અર્થાત્ વજન કરેલું, જોખેલું, તમને દેવના ત્રાજવામાં તોળવામાં આવ્યા છે, અને તમે ઓછા માલૂમ પડ્યા છો.
28 પેરસ અર્થાત્ ભાગલા પાડેલું; તમારા સામ્રાજ્યના ભાગલા પાડવામાં આવ્યા છે અને મિદિયા અને પશિર્યાના લોકોને વહેંચી આપવામાં આવ્યા છે.”
29 ત્યારપછી બેલ્શાસ્સારની આજ્ઞા અનુસાર દાનિયેલને જાંબલી ઝભ્ભો પહેરાવવામાં આવ્યો, તેના ગળામાં સોનાની સાંકળી પહેરાવવામાં આવી અને તેને રાજ્યમાં ત્રીજો અધિકારી જાહેર કરવામાં આવ્યો.
30 તે જ રાત્રે બાબિલના રાજા બેલ્શાસ્સારનો વધ થયો.
31 માદીના દાર્યાવેશે રાજ્યની રાજસત્તા સંભાળી. તેની ઉંમર આશરે બાસઠ વર્ષની હતી.
1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
8 Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.
10 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of the Lord by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the Lord hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
